I’m a little nervous today. I was walking around the grocery store, looking for my monthly list of goodies that I would normally pick up in preparation for Mrs. Flow. When I got to the check-out counter and pulled out my wallet, I realized that today was the 7th! The 7th of September is here and I didnt even notice! Time has flown! I realized, also, that my Flow is 13days late.
Yes, I am sexually active. I have only had one partner that I have been with in the past, and he and I are currently separated – but (and it should really say BUT), according to my personal calendar it’s possible that I could be pregnant.
I have taken a home test as well as getting a test done by my medical doctor, both of which have come up negative. The Nurse (who was very nice, calm, collected) stated that at 13 days it might just be that it is too early to tell, and that the hormones might not be “up there” yet. My body is like a clock. I can tell you what time and day of the month is, and I have never been this late before. Sure, my period will flux every once in a while and be a couple days off – but not 13.
Is there any advice out there in the hive? What are some other things that might cause my period to be so late? I haven’t been on any new meds, my stress level isn’t really much to talk about, and I am a healthy eater. I exercise regularly and haven’t changed my lifestyle in such a way that would cause my body to go crazy.
I’m going to wait a week and go back to get re-tested, per what my nurse has told me. I haven’t experienced anything unusual other than craving sweets and being tired — all of which I chalked up to it getting close to “that time of the month.”
Help? ~ Thanks a bunch!!

If the tests are negative 13 days after your period was due, I don’t think you are pregnant. There could definitely be another reason your period is so late – stress, thyroid issues?

@rubyred605: It’s interesting that you mentioned Tyroid issues. As part of my medical mark-up for my job I had a Thyroid test done a few months ago (my Mother has issues) and everything is fine in that department. Regarding stress, that was my first thought – but I haven’t been under any great deal of it lately; normal day-to-day stuff, yes, but nothing that I would consider enough to mess with my cycle. Thanks though! 🙂

Something similar happened to me…I missed my period, but got negative results when I tested. My period ended up showing up, 46 days later, which is VERY unlike me—I’m usually very regular. The doctor said that it was most likely an anovulatory cycle that is more comman that women realize. I always assumed you miss your period and that means you’re pregnant, so it was a very frustrating side. On the plus side, I got pregnant my next cycle. I hope you’re able to get some answers!

I was 12 days late once, but that was definitely due to stress (death in the family). Of course, when my period didn’t come I was stressed for other reasons which did not help at all and my doctor had to give me medicine which made my period start thus relieving the stress. Since you said you weren’t stressed, perhaps it was just an anovulatory cycle as others have said, but the fact that you missed your period has since caused you to become stressed? Just a thought it happened to me! Good luck!

I am no expert, but from what I understand, stress around when your period is due will not make it late but stress when you were supposed to ovulate can cause you to ovulate late or not at all (and thus make your period late).
Are you 13 days past when you where due to start your period? If that is the case I would almost certainly think it would show up on a test (unless you are one of those lucky ladies who will test negative even at 8 monthes along) I would wait anouther week and then go back to the doctor.
Best wishes! I hope it all works out for you!

Our bodies just do crazy things sometimes. At 13 days late, I think it’s really unlikely that you’d be pregnant and still getting negative tests. I tested the day after my period was due and got a very obvious positive.

I jut looked quickly at your previous post. Enging a 4 yer relationshi and btteling with depression sounds like a lot of stress. You mentioned new job recently. Is it possible that you are not relizing that these things are sstressing your out physically? Sounds to me like such life changes could mess with your cycle.
