I honestly don’t know anything about durability,  but holy crap your ring is stunning!  You guys did a beautiful job designing it.

@Ccalifornia18:  it’s gorgeous!  I think it’ll be fine but I’m no expert…what is a shoulder?

Mine is very, very similiar. I would say it’s identical but my pave diamonds, go 3/4 down on either side, and I have 3 mirco pave rows of diamonds. I have had no problems at all!

The one thing I would say be wary of, from what we were told from different jeweler’s and a gf who had this problem, are the diamonds on the bottom. I originally wanted what you have…all the way around it. Even though it would cost us more, every place did not suggest it. The reason is because that part of your ring will be hitting everything you grab and that constant pressure can quickly dislodge the diamonds.

This is totally a person choice and I say if that is what your heart is set on, please go for it. I’m just telling you what my experience was b/c you were worried about fragility. 🙂

@Ccalifornia18:  I would be worried about the bottom rather than the top.  I would DEFINITELY get that as a half infinity rather than a whole.

Mine looks really delicate, but I’ve hit it on a million things (oops) and it’s still in one piece.

i literally have almost the same ring as you! no shoulder, mine’s half eternity  (but shared prong which is more durable than pave) and i’ve had zero issues with it. i don’t baby it – i only take it off if i’m doing something gross (making hamburgers or something!) i sleep with it, shower with it, etc.

@Ccalifornia18:  hmm i re read your post, and i see that it’s set higher – mine is set quite low which i love and asked for. it feels more protected that way and i rarely hit it on things and it almost never gets snagged. i would ask your jeweler to set it lower if possible.

Mine is also super high-set… No problems yet!

Not having a cathedral setting really should not affect durability much, if at all. The classic Tiffany style has no cathedral and it has been around for quite a long time without significant issues. Like others have said, the pave is more of a worry, although with it being half instead of full, that should reduce the issues considerably. Beautiful ring.

Your ring sounds GORGEOUS… looking forward to seeing pics when you get it.

There are many kinds of settings… depending on how much support is going on under your Diamond this is known as a Prong Setting or a Basket Setting.

(Ones with “shoulders” as you described are typically Cathedral Settings… you can use GOOGLE for more info on Settings if you wish)

In truth, ERing Settings are actually quite stable… they are designed that way… knowing full well that women will be wearing these rings everyday forever.

My first marriage, and my Bridal Set was a combo Prong / Cathedral Setting… and altho much smaller than yours (I had just a wee bit of a Diamond)… I can tell you it was very secure.

PHOTO – Prong / Cathedral Setting… as you can see the Shoulders here aren’t attached to the Diamond Setting itself… the Diamond floats above.  (This isn’t my Ring, but a close approximation)

I wore that ERing for 20+ years 24/7 x 365 (rarely took it off), and banged the H3LL out of it on occasion, and nothing ever happened to it.

Hope this helps,

@Ccalifornia18:  nothing to add but wanted to say lovely design! Think it’s a smart move to only do the diamonds half way down. Smile
