The only thing Less said in his most recent update was that they’re working on 8 mm rounds and hoping to get through the long wait list soon. Basically I think he said somewhere that their priority is the gem.

What about schubachs hand selecting either FB or unenhanced?

@musician32992:  FB is no longer coated (since April 2013).  There’s no longer any coating, so you should be safe with FB!

Oh geez I forgot about that. I honestly don’t know. The whole moissanite thing is confusing because you don’t know who to trust. Actually I’m going to post something I just wrote on another thread a while ago:

From my perspective, nobody’s hands are really clean. Do I trust the online vendor who wants my business and sells only moissanite as their bread and butter or the jeweler who wants me to buy a diamond? I don’t know. Somewhere, someone is misinformed at best, or lying at worst, and since I’m not a gemologist or physicist, I have no idea who. So my only point was that I’ve heard very different things from local reputable jewelers than I’ve read online by the companies who sell it. Meaning, this jeweler may still produce a beautiful product for her and is not necessarily being intentionally shady.

I also know from my personal experience that the moissanite a jeweler ordered for me as “high quality” looked totally different than the Amora I ordered. There are differences among the quality, and it’s well known that there are “duds.” It really makes it difficult for a consumer to know who to trust and what’s true information.

My whole point is that I feel like it’s really hard to get unbiased information about it. Because BTD is always putting down C&C (and maybe for good reason, or maybe to gain business, idk) and then most jewelers are no help because they have a third side of the story. I wish there was more consistency to protect the consumer. Can you have moissanite appraised by an independent appraiser? If so maybe you could order a loose FB and unenhanced and have them appraised?

Edit: ok I posted after @ceebree so in that case I would go with FB from schubachs I think. I wonder how C&C changed the rough?

@musician32992:  i know it’s really confusing, and crappy for the consumer. I’m still excited about the AG potentially, but the way Less has handled questions and concerns is shady. If the dark spot moissanite has is fixed with the H&A cut of the AG I’ll be excited, but it will still be a long time until I can get one regardless.

Anyway, I would probably order one of each if I was you to compare. I would go with schubachs because they pick the best ones.

@musician32992:  The cushion cut Amora Moissanites will not be available any time soon, unfortunately.  However if you wanted to purchase an FB Moissanite now and upgrade to an Amora Moissanite through our company, once available, we can do that.

@musician32992:  I’m definitely thinking of just ordering a loose FB from MoissyCo to see how it looks.

I think this is exactly what you need to do.  You’ll either love it and keep it, or you’ll end up returning it.  That’s what I’d do if I were you.

Does Moissaniteco give you an upgrade option? If you send in the original stone? I know some companies do. If they do you could always try fb and if you don’t fall in love you can upgrade. I have no idea if they do that. That will give you an idea if you like the properties of moissanite 🙂

@musician32992:

Hello musician,

I am still learning to use this board, as it is different from the other forum.

Just wanted to offer you my HO. IMO from the 9 sec video posted of Amora Gem, it does look like a lovely clean cut stone. However, I noticed that you are looking for a smaller size stone – 6.5 mm. I like smaller stones also, as I just think they are more believable. AG is not going to be available in that size for a long time by the looks of it, but in my view it is a very good thing because it is way too overpriced.

On Amora Gem Review thread someone found the information from investor forums. They reckon that in 2015 the moissanite prices will plummet and whilst they are frustrated that C&C don’t seem to be doing anything innovative at the moment, they say that a lots of Silicon Carbide stones will flood the market from all sorts of sellers and growers of SIC all around the world. In fact,, other SIC growers are already emerging in China and cutting and faceting stones as we speak. I just think that there are so many exciting things that are going to happen when the patent gets lifted, the competition will be fierce and at the moment AG is totally not competitevely priced in my opinion. At the end of the day it is a Silicon Carbide in a market  which is going to be totally unlocked in 2 years time and all sorts of things will happen.

This view won’t be shared by everybody especially as a lot of people who want their rings quicker and are frustrated with waiting as it is. I have 6.5 mm RB cut FB and I am so happy with it – it’s white, bright and sparkly. There is no way I am paying these kind of prices for AG when the patent is so close before being lifted. It would be wise though to put your name down for AG just in case in 2 years for one reason or another nothing significantly changes. You are not losing anything by being on the list and can refuse if something better comes up. I think that 6.5 mm AG cushions are miles away anyway, since BTD only offers huge sizes which are more profitable for them to sell.

Colour will be a bit more in a cushion cut though as opposed to RB, but as it is small size 6.5 mm you might just get away with it.

@musician32992:  My Amora moissanite is H color (and looks it; very minimal color even in the worst lighting- I adore it!), but my FB moissanite that I recently purchased (1 month ago) looks more of a J-K or lower color. It’s MUCH more moody. I don’t know that I’d go with FB if you want a whiter stone. The two (Amora moissy and FB moissy) do not look the same to me. But, as a PP stated, you can always order a loose FB and decide then.
