FI & I just moved into a new apartment, and our downstairs neighbor is constantly smoking on her balcony, and the smoke smell moves up and comes through our windows.
We don’t want to confront her, because she can do what she wants in her space, and we don’t want to close the window, because it gets really stuffy with it closed. Is there anything we can do about this, or are we stuck just dealing with it or closing the window? Can we do anything to surpress the smell? Any tricks on masking or getting rid of it?
(Nothing against the bees who smoke, we just don’t want it in our home)

There’s some pad things you can get at Home Depot and put them in your vents. Worked like a charm for us! Can barely smell the smoke (we’re in a triplex and the other 2 apartments smoke like chimneys!)
Edit: just realized you said its coming through the windows… Don’t know how to help you there 🙁 sorry!

@dv3849: That would be great, but we live in an older building and we don’t have ventes, it is big old heater things in each room.

Hmm where do you live? In CA, that’s actually illegal (smoking within x feet of entrances of multifamily dwellings, that is). If the laws are like that where you live, talking to management about it should help.
Or maybe you could talk with her about possibly moving to an upper unit?

@crayfish: She smokes on her own balcony, attached to her apartment, not by the entrance, so nothing illegal going on. We are in a 3 level building, she lives on the first floor, we are on the 2nd.

Invest in an air cleaner.
