eh - i think of curvy like ... curvy (i.e. i have 32GG boobies. but i wear a size 6 - aside from the boobies)
I vote curvy but really either way I'll be happy with the board. Thanks Mr. Bee :)
I like curvy. It kinda irritates me when people only associate curves with breasts. I think of curves AND hips.
i vote curvy... im not a plus size but im not a size 6 neither... im in between plus and regulars size so im curvy
I like something along the lines of Dove's Real Women campaign, but wouldn't want to insinuate women without curves aren't real either so I dunno
I'm not a plus sized woman so take my comments as you want. I see issues with either option. Women of all sizes are curvy and that's sort of like when people say things like "finally a real woman" as if skinnier ladies are less womanly. Although I know this is in no way the intention it sets up a comparision or dichotomy that insinuates one is better than the other.
I hate that I nayed both without giving a suggestion 'cuz its so not fair.
As for women of all sizes being curvy... could that be a good thing here? It could make a Curvy board more inclusive...
I think we want to stay away from phrases like "real women" - or any other words that might imply a value judgement of any kind.
There's definitely an overwhelming demand for the board... with 21 five star votes on the ideas forum! So we'd love to find a name for it that's both neutral and appropriate. :-)
Not all plus-sized women are curvy, that's true. A lot of people do take "plus size" as derogatory, so that might not be a good choice either.
Perhaps "full-figured" ? Or does that sound too grandma?
I'm not sure about this one. I don't think there is anything wrong with the term plus size, and there is always an argument over the term curvy. There are other options, but I'm sure anyone will want to be described as zaftik/zaftig, Rubenesque, ample, bountiful or sonsy (the last of which risks going unnoticed due to lack of use, or being risky for potential usage nitpicking). None of them bother me, but they may bother others. I'm just not sure what to do, but writing this post "Bountiful Brides" has started sounding better...and then worse...
i like the alliteration bluebutterfly! i can't decide either....i feel like weddings highlight so many body-related things. but what's the goal of the board? to provide support and resources for women who wear a size 12+ (which is the technical definition of plus-sized) or is it to be more general for women who don't always fit the mold, regardless of whatever size they are? i mean there are a whole host of issues around both, so i could go either way. i myself am plus-sized and proud, but i am also quite curvy....
Here's the original request from the person who asked for the board!
I think it would be great to have a board for plus sized brides (or plus size issues in general). We have many wedding planning issues specific to us, and I think it would be helpful for us plus sized brides to have more of a presence. This would not be a diet/exercise type of board, but instead a comfortable place where we can share our concerns/considerations, and be recognized for being beautiful no matter our size!

Re: a technical definition or requirements to post in a board... none of our boards have ever had any requirements to post! Anyone is always free to participate in any board... that's the way the site has always worked. :-)
Voluptous and i agree with bamboo, you don't have to be plus sized to be curvy..
How about these
I would call it CURVY, or as Beyonce would put it!: A Whole lot of Woman!
Curvy for sure! I've been told that I have more curves than a mountain road lol
And plus size does have a bit of a negative connotation.
how about "real woman" or 'voluptous".
btw curvy does not neccissary mean plus size it just means you have curves all around. you could be curvy and a size 12 (not plus size). some people consider themselves curvy if they are not pencil thin...which is so not true. no one is meant to be skin and bones!! I associate being skiny with sickness and not being healthy...so why do so many people want that?! being healthy is not the same as being skinny.
so embrace your shape and size ladies! i love my size 16/18 figure and i love the idea of this board! cant wait! Thanks!!
oh wait...i second the full figured idea! plus size is a little derogitory for some people (i dont mind but it does have some sort of negative aspect to it)
I change my vote to full figured but either way i will use the board..i dont care what it is called! :)
What about voluptuous brides? It's similar to curvy, but more on the nose with what our bodies really look like.
I love full-figured board. I'm on the top of regular stores, but the bottom of plus size stores, but I would definitely say I'm full-figured. I sort of like Voluptuous but it's making me think of Voldemort from Harry Potter LOL
I would say Full Figure because a lot of women are curvy but not plus sized and not all plus sized women are curvy so I think full figured would be better since some people don't like the term plus sized
I vote curvy for the fact that it really does open it up but it can be used for plus-size brides to put wedding issues in as well! I just think it'd be better to leave it a little more open-ended!
Hmm, there's something about "curvy" that makes it feel more ambiguous. And I agree with the previous comment about it being a bit like "oh we finally have a real woman here" feel - at least to me. And I'm neither a stick nor a plus-sized (for lack of a better word) woman.
But as for suggestions? I'm a bit stumped. Sorry Mr Bee!
I vote against "real women". That insinuates that thin women are not real women. That is completely untrue, as is the assumption that thin women are "not right" "unhealthy" or "unnatractive" Both plus sized and thin women are healthy, and beautiful. It's not fair to segregate or favor EITHER one.
I put this to my mom, who is a plus-sized lady, and she liked full-figured the best, and I think I agree with her :) I agree with littlemissmoo that curvy does seem a bit ambiguous, but I still like it better than plus-sized.
no matter what it's called i agree that a board is needed. how bout "more to love"? i shop in Lane Bryant and worked (and shop) in Torrid so i understand that there are definately specific issues that pertain to us larger ladies. personally i don't care if you call me plus size or full figured or curvy all i care is that i can find some other bees with the same issues that i'm having or going to have (uh hello a garter that will actually fit). i'm looking for some other bees that will have real issues with dresses, not the "problem" of having to lose 10 lbs to get into that off the rack dress they want. i know that i won't be off the rack and even the idea of having something made scares me knowing how much fabric costs and how many extra yards i'm going to need
. i second my own suggestion (can i do that?) and vote for "more to love" that way no one specifically feels left out (whether you're a 12, 16 or 28) and it's sounds less like a catagory in a sizing chart. sorry if this was long but it's a subject near and dear to my heart.
I vote for Curvy, it's a better name for that board. Because it isn't as harsh as "plus sized"
I vote for full-figured. It doesn't have quite the negative connotations that plus-sized does.

Sounds like most of you guys would like a board for plus size brides!
There were a few requests to call the board "Curvy" instead of "Plus Size":
JeanL1984: I vote yes but maybe we need another name? curvy brides? I don't know exactly what would work, but "plus size" rubs some people the wrong way sometimes :)
waitingbee: I vote yes, and I love the "curvy bride" suggestion !!
So I thought we'd put it to a vote. Curvy or Plus Size?
