So my husband just got offered a graphic design job! He’s taking over a publication from a nonprofit organization starting next month. I’m also starting a photo business (getting my official business license & everything) next month. We’re wondering if we purchase a new computer so husband can work for the publication, if we could get it as a business write off? Or maybe we should start up a graphic design/photography business together because he does graphic design to promote events for free. I’m just wondering if that’s something we can write off on my taxes for next year?
His computer won’t work with the graphic design job, its SO slow, it takes ages just to edit photos so he HAS to get a new one or he won’t be able to do the job. I have a macbook but I’ll be using it for my photography & so we really need to get another computer so he can do the job.
Should he try to get it written off thru the nonprofit?
Should I just get my photography business license & claim in on there? He does help me with photography sometimes & another computer would help with my photography somewhat.
Should husband start a graphic design business so he can write it off himself? He’ll be the main one using it. He does other graphic design things, but he doesn’t get paid for it. Except he will be paid by the new job.
We want to do what’s best for us financially & keep it legal. Thanks for your help!
