Lovely home!  Congrats!  Super jealous of your big kitchen–mine is teeny-tiny (only 8′ wide, counting 2′ lost to cabinets on each side).

Have you checked out the decorating boards on GardenWeb?  They’ve been great for me decorating (and renovating) my 1920’s cottage home.

Love the color scheme you are talking about.  One tip I’ve heard of (and find helpful) for spaces that flow into each other, but are distict spaces:

Pick one main color and then find the next two colors (either darker or lighter).

Start at the first space you will walk into OR the space that gets the least light and use the lightest shade, then get darker in each successive space.

Then, use an even lighter shade on the ceilings throughout the spaces.

Use the same idea to guide your purchasing of fabrics for pillows and the like OR use the same fabrics throughout.

Hmm, I’d add more color to the walls in the den or just more pops of color–hang some art or photos, paint the backs of the built-ins, hang some roman shades on those doors, and put a rug on the floor to warm up the space.

Is that strange area maybe your breakfast room?  Not sure if you have a formal dining space or not…So, round table and chairs (minimum of 4) with a pretty serving bowl in the center filled with seasonal produce, ornaments, or flowers, round or octagonal rug in a solid or a simple pattern that compliments the fabrics in your den, and barstools at the counter.  Then, I’d decide what to do with the walls–like wine, how about floating shelves for wine glasses and wine bottles?; read lots of books?  turn the smaller of the two walls into a bookcase and paint (or decal it!) favorite lines from a book, play, song, etc on the opposite wall in a (glossy) barely lighter shade of paint than the wall; have tons of photos?  gallery wall it and toss in some chalkboard paint for some fun….

Not a breakfast area?  4 comfy chairs with a round coffee table in the center and bookshelves on the smaller wall would make a lovely library or chilling space.

Have fun!
