I am searching for a new career and need advice! I’m lucky to have the career I do but i have to travel extensively sometimes and I havnt had a vacation or even a long weekend with no phone calls, billing, etc in over 6 years!! I own my biz so I understand dedication but geese!!
Id like something I can do from home (not MLM or anything like that). Something legitimate! I know these jobs and businesses are out there but I’m not creative enough to find them I guess lol.
any suggestions would be much appreciated!! I just want to stay home more and enjoy my kids! Baking cookies with them now includes opening the package and putting on a baking sheet. I’m missing doing the real baking and actually able to do stuff with my kids when I am home. My current biz not only puts out of home traveling but half of the work is then done online when I do get home. So even when I’m here I’m working!! Ugh…

Do you have any degrees? If so, what in? Any talents?

More and more companies are instituting home shore and virtual departments, so depending on your background and what you want to do you might be able to find a WAH position like that – for example, ADP is a huge company, F500, with lots of homeshore associates. I work at home FT, and so does everyone else in my company. I came to this position after a few years experience in the field (HR). If you aren’t talking about a FT gig, there’s all of the usual etsy/eBay suggestions, or something like going to massage school and setting up a studio in your house.
Do you have the opportunity to transfer within your company to a role with less travel/stress? Personally, that would be the first avenue that I would explore…there’s a lot of ground between crazy travel and working at home that might allow you more time with your family!

Are you a one-person business? Because you sound like it! Why don’t you hire someone to help you out? Are you so set on changing careers? Since you already partly work from home I’m not sure why you don’t just continue with that, and find someone to handle the parts you don’t like, like traveling?

@LucyLaLa: it’s my own business that is statewide. I do have other people that I hirI tout for the majority of travel. The nature of the business keeps me on call 24/7 almost though. I’m burned out and looking to start something new either FT or PT from home. Something where it’s less intense 🙂
