My fiance and I love New Orleans, but we are getting married in New Jersey on the beach with an indoor reception. We want a New Orleans vibe for the reception, so we are going to play zydeco and jazz, serve hurricanes and hand grenades, and have some upscale cajun food. The problem I’m running into is with decor. When I think of New Orleans, I think ferns, wrought iron, and magnolias…but what else? Does anyone have any ideas about how I should decorate? We do not want a Mardi Gras theme, so no beads, no masks, no purple/gold/green.

-The fleur de lis is a huge one. They can be used on the cake, the napkins, invites, almost everything.
-table names could be famous NO sites or restaurants
-have a second line around the ballroom
– overall think traditional, a little formal, southern
For cocktails, look into some more traditional elegant ones maybe. Hand grenades are sort of a “drunken tourist” drink.

Great idea for your reception ‘theme’…. I only spent about 24 hours in NO, but it definitely is in my heart! How about some kind of 3 tiered fountain–ferns in fanciful urns (concrete?), and something we put in some of our outdoor lighting…those flickering light bulbs that are in the carriage lights all over NO? Make sure to post pictures after the big day! Congratulations!
