So I've been stressing and waiting to get new nightstands to go with my headboard, and we just picked up some that I liked from Target. I WAS thinking I needed to do white nightstands but thought these would look good. I'm definitely not a fan of matching ALL furniture so I thought I could mix and match it, but still make it look good. I got these and honestly I'm not sure what I think, so I took pictures in hopes that you ladies would be able to tell me your opinions...so LAY IT ON ME...please be honest!
Here's the room BEFORE the nightstands & headboard (the room and the picture is a little bit lighter bc I took the picture during the day...)
Here's a picture with the headboard but NO nightstands...

& here it is with the nightstands we just bought! (& a new & more beautiful comforter!!)

Let me know what you guys think! & THANK YOU for your help!!
@kfricke89: Thank you!! The nightstands are a darker brown but has lighter colors in it as well. It's a very pretty color BUT I can take them back if need be so I wanted to make sure it looked good!
I don't love them. I think I'd like something with a bit more ornate leg to match the detail on the sides of your headboard. OR something uber contemporary to contrast it entirely. These air on the side of traditional for me and don't really balance such an awesome piece. Just my $0.02 ;) Did you decide if you're going to paint that wall an accent colour?
I think that you might keep with the rustic look for the night stands. I think they look a bit awkward with the beautiful headboard, just a touch too modern. Maybe something like this one.
@bakerella: Thank you for your advice! I def. needed to know whether or not it even went. I'm not sure about the accent color just because I'm not even sure what color to paint it. :(
I think that they are a bit too dark for the headboard - they are too contrast-y to look deliberate.
I agree, I love the headboard but I don't like the nightstands with it.
Okay, thank you ladies! This is why I posted it bc I didn't know if it went or not, I really liked them in the store, but when I put it beside my headboard I was iffy so I wanted to know what yall thought.
I am going to take them back by the weekend, but what color should the nightstands be in yalls opinion?
@Lees4308: What happened to all those white ones you liked at Pottery Barn? They'd be awesome! And I think for an accent wall, you could go with a deep grey-blue.
What about getting some that are unfinished and painting them one of the light colors that is in the headboard. Target online had some unfinished tables that would look really nice painted the bluish grey color.
I do like the contrast of colors between the headboard and nightstands, it adds some interest. I don't think I would like white with the headboard, too matchy, but any medium wood stain would look good. I would also paint that wall as an accent wall a rich gray and add some European pillows to the bed. If you aren't familar with them, just google them. They are big square pillows that would set up higher than your regular pillows, and add a bit more dimension and continuity between the pillows and the extra height of the headboard. Just my opinion!
@bakerella: ohhhh that would be so pretty!! Want to come design my house too :)
@bakerella: They were just too expensive :( I could save up, but these were only $80 each, compared to pottery barn's $180/each. I think that's a good idea on the accent wall. I'll see what I can find.
@Lees4308: Option B: Much more hands on, but worthwhile. Go to a thrift store/second hand shop. Find something similar to the Pottery Barn ones you like, sand and paint white. It'll take a full day but be worthwhile :)
@MissTatas: Sure. I didn't go to school for interior design for nothing. I can put aside being a SAHW for a fellow Bee ;)
I would go with either a white (distressed or not) or lighter wood option, something that draws from the colours in the headboard. I also think a darker accent wall behind the bed would add some contrast to that wall, that would help lighter nightstands tie in with the headboard and add interest.
Ya know.....you can "distress" the nightstands and make them look more rustic/vintage. I distressed my grandpas old dresser that was handed down to me and made it look totally cool. You can buy that crackle paint and paint em and beat em up a bit. It's a lot of fun to do, and you'll love the fact that you did it yourself. Just an idea...
Thank you all for the advice! I'm going to take those nightstands back though and do a little bit more research to find ones that will look better there. I def agree though, something wasn't right so I'm going to look for the right ones!
Thank you all again for the help! :)
I know you already decided you don't like it and I agree- I think they are too dark as others said- but also too heavy. I feel like you need something lighter next to as large of a headboard as that - the headboard should really take center stage and they should be more of an accent, IMO. I would do something like one of these- especially the blue one! Or a gray color, but similar to these shapes. (These are both off Pottery Barn's website)
I really like them, but not necessarily with your headboard. With your headboard being so big, I feel like you could afford to go a little bigger in size with the nightstands. They almost look a little lost at that size.
It's a really cool headboard though :)
I agree with forforever- I think they need to be slightly larger. When next to the substantial headboard they almost get lost.
@monalisa670: Actually the first picture you posted was one that I've been looking at, I just HATE how expensive PB is! I was thinking the white one though, do you think that would look good? Or do you think the blue would look better? I can definitely see how the blue would look good though. Thank you so much for the advice!!!
@LacrosseBride: I got it in Panama City Beach, FL at Pier Park at a store called Beau Treasor! I LOVE that store! :)
Oh wow, I just love your Shabby Chic style headboard! I think the blue nightstand would look great with it- the walls are already white, and you need a splash of color in there!
um paint that wall orange girl!!!! and i second the blue nightstand! the ones oyu have are just too dark :)
@Miss Burgundy: I know the walls look white, but they're actually a sage tint color. It's so hard to show the color through pictures. Here's another picture of the "sage tint" I found on google.com images:

It was supposed to turn into a light green, which to some people it may look like that color...but it turned into a light foamy green/light blue. But it is VERY light. I just want to make sure all the colors match well together.
They (nightstands) seem too insubstantial to me, because your headboard is so substantial. I also agree with the folks who said to go lighter in color on the nightstands.
@kayakgirl73: Thank you! I've had some people tell me that the nightstands need to be smaller and some told me they need to be bigger, but I think that the recommendations that monalisa mentioned earlier would work well in the room.
Got another "desiging" question for someone who will answer - I have these curtains now:

(you can also see them in the last picture)
anyways..OBVIOUSLY with the new comforter I have those curtains don't go anymore, so I was thinking white sheer curtains. I did go and get some bamboo blinds (not the dark mocha colored ones, but the "natural" lighter color bamboo blinds"). Do you think white sheer curtains would look good?
To answer your ques, yes. I think white sheer w/ a light colored bamboo blinds would look good.
I just LOVE bamboo or grass blinds!
BTW, I was going to suggest adding more texture to the room, and the blinds will help add that texture :)
Yes, I think white sheers would be much better! As for the nightstands, I personally think that too big or dark of nightstands would not look right. I can see why people would say they need to be more substantial, but I think the way to do the balance is with the color, and let the headboard be the piece of substance. I would go with the blue ones I posted. I agree that PB is expensive and it sucks! But, they aren't the most expensive of the options at PB at least. As for the wall color, does it match the pinks/blues in the room? I think you could get some fun table lamps too which might make things look more cohesive and balanced. Also a ton of big white pillows would look great, IMO :) And maybe a darker accent wall in the room?
@tksjewelry: lov love love this option more...its just fits the antique theme!
You can do bamboo blinds or tan or ivory curtains also a grey blue on the walls would look great accent your bed as well with baby blues and greys i dont like the night stands either maybe something with curved or shaped legs in a lighter color like this
@AnnieAAA: Thank you! I need to post photo's of the blinds so yall can see what it looks like.
@monalisa670: The wall color does match the blue's very well. I just don't want there to be TOO many blues. I don't really see any pinks anywhere in the room, what did you mean by that? You're not the first person to mention an accent wall either, but I just don't know what color?! I was thinking maybe pictures or something on either side to break up the light color walls. I don't know, it's so hard to picture what color to paint that wall.
@ManciasToBe: That is a nice option. Thank you for adding a photo!! I have bamboo blinds now, do you think I need curtains at all? I was thniking white sheer curtains to go with the blinds
Definitely pictures/wall hangings! As for the pinks for some reason I am seeing the headboard as having a lot of pink in it, is that just my computer? How big is the room? Is it show in its entirety on these pics? As for an accent wall color maybe like a grey?? I'm not sure.. or the same color that's already on your walls, just darker?
@monalisa670: OH, great idea about the same color on the walls just darker - I have a color in mind right now. It is the color we WERE thinking of painting the wall to begin with but got the lighter version. I will definitely see about doing that.
You're not COMPLETELY wrong about the pinks - I mean, there aren't any PINK pinks but I can see now why you would see the pink tones. I think it looks more pink than it really is in the photo but there are some pink-ish color tones.
The room is pretty much the size you see there. Here's more photos I took a while ago that shows the room from different angles:
