My Fiance purchased my ring from Blue Nile. Now, the diamond is great and was a great value. The setting left much to be desired, however – the sides were almost completely covered up by a thick, warped basket. It made the ring look cheap – like it was a $20 ring bought in a swap meet or something. I didn’t want to deal with the hassle of mailing the ring back to Blue Nile (and losing it for weeks), especially when I was unsatisfied by their workmanship to begin with.
I took my ring to a fantastic local jeweler – Eli’s Jewelry in the Downtown L.A jewelry district. He changed the setting to a basket that left the sides open – now I can actually see my beautiful diamond! He even gave me credit for my old setting so I didn’t have to pay all that much. I am now finally happy with my ring – what a difference a small change makes!

Omg, that is too funny! We are living the same situation lol! I have a rectangular radiant diamond and my first setting was also a basket setting and I couldnt stand it. I went to Eli’s on Monday hahah! I ended up getting my setting at Icing on the Ring (on the 3rd floor of the same building) rather than Eli’s because Eli couldn’t purchase my original setting.. but Eli and his brother and mom were so nice! I just picked up my new setting today!
Your ring is gorgeous!! I love emerald cuts!

@melisande: I really dislike basket settings for the most part and I think you made the best decision to get the basket removed. Your ring looks stunning!! I love emeralds also. I wish I could pull one off.
@october22: LOVE IT! Gorgeous side profile! 😉

Thanks for the compliments everyone! I am happy with the ring now 🙂
@october22: It really is too funny! I love your ring btw- the new setting is beautiful, it really shows off your diamond. Yeah, Eli and company were really nice – they were the first people I approached. I’ve heard of Icing on the Ring – I didn’t know it was in the same building though!

@melisande: Pretty! I had the same Blue Nile basket setting and I took the bars off them, too. It definitely makes the diamond sparkle more.

I had to do a double take but yes you are right! It makes a big difference. Your new setting is beautiful. Looks like better quality which therefore makes it look more expensive. Congrats!
