Yay I love Michigan!!! I'm not from Northern Michigan (I'm from the Detroit area) but I love the Michigan-Indiana area!!! My wedding is actually in Indianapolis! Good luck planning!!!!
We are planning a Michigan wedding. Live in Kalamazoo but the wedding is at the beautiful Acorn Theater in Three Oaks Michigan (4 miles from Indiana). It's an hour away but the best venue I've ever seen. Good to see another Michigan bride!
I'm also new to all of this! I swore I would never join one of these sites but I broke down today. I think it is a wonderful way of giving and getting support from other future brides! I am getting married July 10th, 2010 and as soon as I hit the 1 year mark I started to panic! So much needs to be done its nerve wracking! So far we have our venue, we are using the Burbank Airport Marriot. Has anybody on here used that venue before? Good luck ladies!
aww well welcome! you are going to find some great advice/help/support/ideas here, that's why we ar all so addicted to WB
Good luck on the planning journey girls! :)
kazoochair, I also live and work in Kalamazoo with my FH but am getting married in Northern Michigan, Mackinac Island.
Azureana, welcome to WB! My family is from IN and I live in MI :) Welcome welcome!
azureana, welcome to the hive. I am also a Northern Michigan bride... I live in DC but getting married next summer on Walloon Lake (near Petoskey).
Welcome! This is a wonderful community of ladies, ready to offer suport and creativity when you need it most! I hope you love WB as much as I do :)
Welcome to the Hive! =) You're going to get some awesome advice, meet some wonderful ladies, and soon become addicted! =D
I'm in Escanaba!!! We have our reception booked at the Terrace for January! Welcome!! I'm excited to see another Esky bride! Maybe we can help each other with resources and whatnot! Maybe our fiancees even know each other!
Hooray for Michigan brides. I'm getting married in Dearborn in 13 days!!
Welcome!
Miss Scarlet: That would be quite funny if our fiance's know each other! He actually is from Bark River, not Escanaba. But very close. Just curious, who do you have so far for your venues? We have the Terrace as you know, and then we're using Fawn's Photography for our pictures. We still need to find a cake place and a florist.
Thank you everyone for your welcomes! I look forward to this site!
My parents live in Bark River! Cool!
I'm using Fawn's too!! She is really sweet. She did one of my bridesmaids' weddings, and I really like her.
My best friend does wedding cakes as a side business, so she's doing my cake. Do you have pictures of what you want? I can pass them along to her!!
I haven't booked a florist yet!! Shame on me! I like Flinn's, though. I'm not a fan of Wickerts or Delta Floral.
We have Taylored Entertainment for our DJ if you decide you want to go tat way. He's great!
Welcome to the new ladies! Just beware this gets really addicting! LOL But you do get a lot of great information.
Hey ladies!I am also from MI not really northern more central though I am about 30 minutes north of Mt. Pleasant. Although our wedding is set to be held in Midland at Dow Gardens July 24th 2010 .. any other Dow Gardens brides out there?? I would love to see or hear more about the venue... soo much changes wach season with the setting being a garden and I am interested in how things work out there!?
Thanks for starting the Mi thread. We northern people have very limited venues it seems like compared to the southern part of the state.
Congrats to all !!
Miss Scarlet: As far as cakes...we don't have much of an idea lol. We are doing kind of a dessert bar where we will have a lot of different bars, cookies, brownies, etc. besides just cake. So we would want a small cake for ourselves for the cake cutting ceremony with the one tier to keep and freeze for our one year anniversary (I rather like that tradition lol) and then we would want just cupcakes for our guests. Although we could just feed each other cupcakes too... As far as design, we're simple people, so just something with our colors (green and brown) would work out.
Yeah my FI's mom (who is the one in Bark River) is checking out some florists for us. She mentioned Wickert's and Flinn's before. We need to go check them out with her some time too.
I thought about going with Taylored Entertainment. He has some great reviews. However, I'm not sure on how much he costs- we have a very strict budget; that is why we are thinking about doing the DJ part ourselves (we have friends with equipment and know-how who can help us with it).
You don't have much longer to go either! It must be an exciting time for you :) One quick question, what are you doing for hair and make-up? I think I'll have my sister do my make-up but I'm not sure on hair places there. Any suggestions?
yay michigan bees!
i seem to be the only one getting married in east lansing, but i'm glad there's a handful of us on here! i too swore i would never join a site like this, but it sure helps to get others opinions and such...especially when you're indicisive like me!!
@AzureAna, I am sending you a private message with some info.
I'm doing my own make-up. We're doing a dessert bar too with a smaller cake.
Horray for Michigan brides!
The mister and I both grew up in Michigan and were married in Spring Lake, although we live in Chicago now.
Good luck planning, and welcome!
Hi everyone,
I am another Michigan bride to be. June 5, 10 is the big day. Just wanted to pop in and say hello...
Im from the Flint area, any others near by??
I am getting married on Drummond Island (off the eastern tip of the U.P.) I grew up there and I am having a heck of a time finding decent vendors. Let me know if anyone finds anything good! Thanks!
Lynchl, I live in Midland and have been to Dow Gardens multiple times. I've only been to a wedding there once, but it was absolutely beautiful. The spot the bride and groom picked (I assume you can pick the area of the gardens, though I'm not sure) was nicely shaded and overlooked a pond. There weren't many flowers, surprisingly, however they decorated with potted mums for every row of seats. It's a very popular venue for wedding ceremonies, so I'm sure (at least I'd hope) you'll be greeted with knowledgable staff!
I know the couple I'm friends with were very pleased, and if you have any questions, I can ask them and forward the answer to you. :-)

Hello ladies! I just joined this board although we've been engaged since October of last year. We're getting married in Escanaba (that's where he's from) but right now we live in Indiana. Right now I have our reception area (the Terrace- I see someone else is using them too!), our ceremony place (family's huge yard), our photographer, we're doing our own music, and my dress. We still have a bit left to do but we're well on our way. I notice there isn't much activity on here but I look forward to talking with people on here!
