Hello everyone! I’ve been lurking around here for a while and finally decided to post! SO and I have been together for three years now, living together for one. Currently he is “saving up” for a ring, we’re using my moms stones, but he’s reluctant to go to jewlery stores and look at actual settings which is frustrating 🙁 he’s asked me to marry him sans ring multiple times and says he considers us engaged, but when I talk about rings and making it official to our families he gets almost frustrated I think?! It’s an emotional roller coaster sometimes and I really want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with this man. Just looking for some support and wondering should I look on my own? He has no experience with jewlery and at one point told me “just text me what you want and I’ll use that” but he isn’t one to shop around and I’m worried he will get ripped off 🙁 am I being too pushy? Thanks for all of the advice in advance and I’d love to hear from others in similar situations. Nice to meet you bees!

He’s not trying to do this in secret or anything, so you two can have conversations about the ring, which is so much easier! You are doing him a favor by telling him what you like. I would cut out pictures from magazines or put together a set of links to some rings online that you like. Men often know very little about jewelry, and I’m certain he’s nervous about getting the right thing for you, so help him all you can.
My Fiance and I have made almost every decision in this wedding by me picking 5 or so things that I like and then handing it over to him to pick his favorite: Save-The-Date Cards, invitations, cake, printed napkins, etc. He’s so proud that he gets to choose what we’re using, and I’m guaranteed to like everything he picks!

@Hopefullyengaged: I’m having a similar issue regarding the ring. I want to go looking together, but I’ve mentioned it before and he said that it’s not traditional! Soo, what’s a picky girl to do? I’ve been obsessivley looking online. So far I like ShaneCo and James Allen, but there are sooo many more great sites out there! I’ve also been looking at the websites of local jewelers. I think what I’m going to do is copy and paste a few styles (including the links) that I like onto a word document and email it to him when I get the nerve! This way, he has an idea of what I’m looking for but still gets to have all the control. I am also concerned that he might not want to shop around for the best of the 4 Cs, but I guess we have to trust that they’ll do their HW, right?

Thank you both for your responses! I think my SO is starting to get nervous as well so I think I’m going to do as you ladies suggest and print out what I like and then try to let him do his own thing. As excited as I am to be engaged I don’t want to rush him or stress him out about it.
