Welcome and Congrats!!!
We had our RD at the River House and our Reception at the Old Exchange Building. I highly recommend both but they are very different places. If you have any specific questions feel free to PM me!
@june42011:Thanks!!
I just sent you a message and I saw on here that you had your ceremony at the citadel! That's where we are too! No I have more questions haha
I attended a wedding in Charleston earlier this year and the ceremony was at the Citadel and they reception was at the Wickliffe House. It was an indoor/outdoor reception with heavy hor'dorves rather than a full dinner. I thought it was beautiful!
River House is SOOOO pretty. Then entire Lowndes Grove area is simply stunning. Old Exchange is such an historic "Charleston" building. I don't think you can go wrong with either!
@turtle62212: We did a shower at the Wickliffe House. Absolutely amazing :)
@NatBen: Congrats!!! We're having our ceremony at the Confederate Home and our reception at the Old Exchange. We looked at the River House, but it didn't fit into our budget or time frame. They told us we only had until 5pm to have events there. I hear it may have changed. Let me know if you have any questions, I've checked out a ton of venues in town! Good luck!
@Pink Peony:Thank you!!! My fiance's sister had her reception at the Old exchange and she loved it! I am leaning strongly towards the exchange. It's nice that you can pick from caterers. We really want to have a band. I was told from the exchange that they allow bands and dj. I heard it's not super huge of a room but I'm only looking for around 80 people for the reception. Who did you pick for your catering,flowers and photography ?:)
We almost had our wedding at the riverhouse, it really is beautiful! We ended up getting married at a private house downtown though :) PM me for vendor recommendations and such. Charleston is such a beautiful city to get married in!
@NatBen: We're having the Charlie Daniels Duo from Savannah. It's only 2 people which is perfect since our numbers are creeping up over 100 for a seated dinner! And we're using Cafe Catering. Lauren is great, the food is delish (plus they do free tastings, we were never in town for one though!) and they definitely worked with our budget! Plus they're super familiar with the venue. Let me know what you need, we've found great vendors and gotten great deals!!
We are having our ceremony at the Citadel as well. And the reception at Embassy Suites Downtown because that used to be the Citadel:

Also, this photographer is awesome and has great prices:
We are also using http://www.elainesevents.com/ for the cake....again, great prices!!
How did you do your linens and tables? Is that something the caterers do or do I book all that seperatly with another vendor?
@NatBen:We're using Snyder rentals. They're super familiar with both our venues and they're reasonably priced. Plus our wedding planner gets us 10% off our final order. PM me and I'll send you her info!

I just got engaged last week and begining to look around. I live in Charleston but I'm orginally from Memphis ,TN. I have been looking at the River House and the old exchnage building. Any comments on either location would be very welcome:)
