I feel like I should warn you, though,  that apple and pear trees are very unlikely to produce the first year after they are planted. They often take five or more years from the time they are planted until their first fruiting– so while it would be fantastic to plant them and have them forever, I didn’t want you to be disappointed by their not fruiting as soon as you wanted them to. 

Are there wild apple trees around where you live? There are lots and lots of them where I am, and they make absolutely amazing pie, applesauce, etc. If I were you, I’d find some wild apple trees to harvest from!
