There must be more Bees out there with this date. Other that me and Miss Sunhat. Anyone????
Aww, I'll be celebrating my first anniversary while you're getting married :-) Good luck planning!
@Lindsay12.31.2010: Thanks! Happy Anniversary! How was it combining your wedding with NYE? Double the fun I hope!
So jealous - I always dreamed of having a NYE wedding but my mother is adamantly against it (she feels it's too much pressure to put on your guests to have a wedding during the holidays) and our budget just could never accomodate it - at least the way that I would want to do it. Happy for the ladies that can pull it off, though!!
Also a NYE 2010 bride. There were some things that made it more complicated, but overall, it was a great decision. We had such an awesome time and it's a fun anniversary to have!
@sapphirebride: Agreed. Everything ended up great. We got so many comments on how everyone was excited to actually have plans for NYE. Lots of people plan to do something, and then end up not, so it was a free party!
As far as people having a good time, I think this picture sums it up ;-)

Our guests are all really excited about having something great to do that night. We can't wait to ring in the new year on such a special night!
@sheilad72: I am a NYE 2011 bride! We rented a mansion on the beach and are having a 120 person cocktail style reception starting at 8pm after a 7pm church ceremony. We are having the bridal party stay at the house all weekend. I'm so nervous about pulling it off though! How are your plans coming??

Whoo hooo for NYE brides! The feedback from our guests have been mostly positive. Most say they normally don't have any big plans and are excited to be able to dress up and go out that night! We've had a few complaints (which I found rude) but overall it sounds like everyone is so excited! I can't wait for the holidays to get closer to find more fun hats, glasses, props, etc. for our guests to use.
Are you all doing anything / or have done anything special for the countdown? Did your DJ or emcee announce the countdown or did you have a monitor or clock of some sort?
@sunhat: That is rude of people to complain aobut your choice of wedding date! Most of our guests have already gone shopping for outfits and booked hotel rooms and we haven't even sent out the invites yet!
We are still trying to figure out what to do for the countdown. We may bring in a flat screen TV and have the ball drop in Times Square help us out! Maybe at about 11:45. If not we will have the DJ do something fun. I too can't wait for the holiday decor to come out so I can find all sorts of fun stuff! We may even do the Blow Out bouts that you posted in your blog. FI loved them!
That sounds fun! I wish I could make a weekend out of it. My plans are coming along. I still have a bunch of things to do of course, I feel like the list will never ever end :( How about you? Are you all set?
Our ceremony is at 6 and then the cocktail hour starts at 6:30. We added and extra hour to our reception so that we could all ring in the new year together!
@sunhat: We had our DJ announce the countdown and we all got out on the deck to see the fireworks and screamed out the countdown. We then played Auld Lang Syne and sang along (we put the lyrics on our programs).
Our ceremony started at 7:30. Our DJ showed video of the ball dropping, waiters passed out champagne, and family passed out noisemakers and hats. It was so much fun.
I'm also a NYE bride. 7 PM ceremony, 8PM Cocktail Hour, 9PM-2AM Reception. Passing out champagne, noisemakers and hats at midnight. For the most part friends and family are excited. We have heard some people complain that we are ruining their plans of going on vacation but I just tell them they don't need to come then. Can't believe it's so close!!
99 more days for all of us! We are down to the the double digits! Woo Hoo!
We are under 100 days ladies! I hope all your plans are coming along well. I had a busy, productive weekend but still lots of things to do. Wishing you all the best!
Sorry Bees! I'm late posting but I'm a New Year's bride. It doesn't seem like there are very many of us out there, which is SHOCKING!!! Nevertheless, my plans are similar to Starcharades, only pushed up an hour (venue restrictions) 6pm - Ceremony, 7pm - Cocktail hour, 8pm - Dinner, 9pm - 1am - Dancing and lots of fun!!!!
The only trouble I had was the increase cost of the DJ, but all other vendors kept their pricing the same. I also thought it was a bit challenging planning for a holidy/winter wedding over the summer months but now that the holidays are among us things have been great! I visit all the crafts stores, with holiday decor galore...Mostly Christmas, but you can easily turn Christmas into NYE by simply incorporating silvers/golds.
Countdown - we're bringing in a flat screen to watch the ball drop, and of course the DJ will queue ol' lang syne. Favors, will include champagne bottles and 2012 Calendars!!!!
For all the NYE brides, What are you colors?
Hello NYE Bees!!!! Sorry, I'm delayed in posting but I have been researching sooooo many ideas about my NYE wedding. Here are a couple ideas from our upcoming wedding!!!! I look forward to hearing about what you all have done to incorporate the New Year's spirit into your day, as well.
Btw, did I mention that I chose to get married on this day because my future hubby's last name is JANUARY!!!!!!
Invitations to the NYE WEDDING Gala!!!
Metallic ivory pocketfold with black velvet ribbon, Every guest will receive a (actual perforated) ticket. We also included NYE, so our guest will recieve a "party as the open the invite!

Favors -
1) Blow horns, hats, tiaras
2) Personalized champagne bottles
3) 2012 Calendars

I am so happy to see I have some date twins. We are getting married on NYE and the ceremony/reception are in the same location. The facility we are using has given us 3 rooms at no extra cost. We will have the ceremony in one room at 7PM. The cocktail hour is in another room at 8PM and the dinner will be served in the 3rd room at 9PM. The reception is until 1AM.
We are doing a "Ring in the New Year" theme. We are giving out silver bells with our names and wedding date engraved on them. They will be at each place setting. We also have NYE hats and horns. There will be a tv that comes in at 11:45 and will show the ball dropping.
I've had soooo much fun planning the wedding and I can't wait until it gets here. My family and friends are looking forward to it and can't wait to get dressed up.
OMG!!! What a relief to find other bees with NYE weddings. This wasn't my first choice for a date, but I'm SUPER EXCITED about it now. I could really use some help with reception ideas though. I've never been to a NYE party in my life, so I really need some help. I really want to have a party not a reception.
BTW we decided to go with the peacock theme and have incorporated some winter touches.
I am a new years eve bride, but I am getting married NEXT year! We are doing a balloon drop over the dance floor at midnight :)
@Amy43026: That's a great idea. Happy planning! Maybe you can grab some ideas from all of our recaps in a few weeks! I can't believe it's almost here :)
5 weeks from tomorrow ladies! I'm starting to get very anxious. I'm using this weekend to take stock, organize and make new lists. We'll be confirming with the vendors soon and I have this sinking feeling I'm forgetting something big. I think once I've re-organized, I'll feel much better. Seeing all of the Christmas decor in the stores is making me even more excited!
YAY!!!!! I have the same feeling, that I am totally overlooking something! I started making new lists on Wednesday! I am so very excited! And with the holidays we are busy just about every weekend before the wedding so it is going to fly by! Today I booked my 90 minute pre-wedding massage for the day after xmas and then I will spend the rest of that day packing for my Costa Rica honeymoon!!! Woo Hoo!!!
What things do you still have left to do?????
The only thing I have left to do is finalize the decor (centerpieces table linen/runners, headtable deocr, etc). Yes, I realized that I procrastinated but with good reason....The Holidays are finally here and the stores are loaded with tons of silvers, golds, bronzes, etc/.
What are you guys doing for centerpieces??? I'm still undecided. I battle back and forth between keeping it more wedding-like or more New Year's Party-esque! What do you guys think!!???!!!???
@dposey07: We are doing 2 different CP types. The tall ones are 24 inch tall vases with silver manzita branches with spakly pinecones on them. They will be filled with cracked ice gel and pink submersilbe lights. Fucshia is our accent color. The lower ones is where my NYE decor comes into play... it is a cluster type CP with the focal point being a champagne glass vase which will also have the cracked ice / pink lights and them there is a large fucshia ornament bulb and a silver mesh tea light holder. There will all be arranged on a glass platter. It took me forever to decide on the CP's! It was probably the most stressful part of the wedding planning for me!
Oh hey!! I have no idea how I missed this thread, but I'm a NYE bride too! Our colors are black, white, and silver! It's a pretty small wedding, and it's really not very elaborate at all (sort of last-minute, damn Marine Corps lol). But I'm looking forward to it because it's going to be SO MUCH FUN. We're getting party favors and noise makers and there will be great music, great food, and lots of booze lol!
And think about it-- now we all have a great excuse to party on NYE for the rest of our lives :)
@Miss Fish: Exactly! Everyone is so excited about having something to do on NYE this year! I can't wait to see everyones pictures after I get back from my honeymoon!
Oh, and for centerpieces, we're having white tablecloths and a black runner (for long tables) and we're placing tea lights on the runner. Then we're putting 3-4 wine glasses on the runner, placing some black and white fishtank rocks in the bottom, filling them with water, and floating a tea light on top! Simple, cheap, and cute!
Hey! I am also a NYE Bride! So excited about it all. It is soo close!
Still lots to do and my busiest time of year at work.
@HAMB: I am in accounting so I will be one my honeymoon during the busties timeof year in my dept. The rest of my department will tackle year end without me. I was going to honeymoon for only 10 days, and return to work on a Thursday because I felt guilty. But they told me that they do not want me back in the office that week so we extended our honemoon plans :)
I am so excited it is almost here. I totally don't even feel like Christmas is around the corner. I am so focused on the wedding and our honeymoon I can't process Christmas!
@sheilad72: 1 Month today! Where has the time gone??
We are not doing Christmas this year, just too much other things to do. I figure we will get a lot of the last minute things done Christmas Day, (such as finalising our seating chart). Nothing says Merry Christmas than seating charts! haha
@HAMB: We are cutting way back on gifts this year for Christmas, but we still have a bunch of parties to go to. The day after Christmas I am getting a massage and packing for our honeymoon! Can't wait to exscape winter afterwards and relax on the beach :)
Tomorrow starts Wedding Month!!!!!! Yay for us!
So excited for all of you! I can't wait to see all of your recaps and maybe steel some ideas for my NYE wedding NEXT year :)
Sheilad72- how long is your honeymoon, where are you guys going?
@Amy43026: 12 glorious days in Costa Rica :) Have you started looking at honeymoons yet?
@sheilad72:We have been looking but can't decide between a cruise and or an all inclusive resort, 12 days sounds amazing
@Amy43026: We got engaged on our cruise vacation! Our resort in Costa Rica is all-inclusive. I'll let you know how it was if you are interested after we get back!
