I looks like there are a few New Year's Eve brides out there.

Are you finding that costs are higher for New Year's or cheaper?

Many of the venues we looked at had higher prices for NYE but we went with one that didn't charge anything extra. Additionally, many venues wouldn't let us rent past midnight which is key for NYE!

Same with catering--most wanted to charge at least 1.5x and some as much as 2x for the labor. We went with a catering company that we loved and that doesn't charge extra for labor. Photography and florals, no difference.

We definitely never found anything that was *lower* because of the holiday. In Seattle, it seems that December is considered "high" season.

Totally agree with @sapphirebride. Our band charged a little higher but everyone else was at their normal rate. Having the wedding any other friday in the month would have saved us a fortune because of non peak season discounts. Not on NYE though.

I'm getting charged way more for New Year's.

Venue, bar staff, catering staff, dj, and minister.

The only thing I'm looking at a discount on is the photographer because of the non-peak season.

Bartenders and waiters in every quote I got said double normal rate because of the holiday.

So typically I was quoted $50 an hour for staff.

Everything else the cost remained "normal" for me.

But I would say yep, everything is more expensive on major holidays!

i didn't vote b/c there was no "neither higher nor lower (aka. the same)" option. i don't know if it's the area i'm in or if we've just gotten super lucky, but we haven't had anybody up-charge because of it being new year's. in fact, our photographer knocked off a total of like $600 from our package because NYE is on a friday (instead of a saturday) and we're having a winter wedding (instead of summer). that coupled with the reception venue giving us last year's regular rates (we signed our contract last year) is saving us quite a bit on the two things that typically cost the most. :D
