I had a Day-after New Year's wedding in CA, so no snow but it was chilly. It was on a Friday at 4:30pm, and we didn't have any noticable problems with the date/time for the 150 guests that came. I say, if you and your FI want to do it, and the people you MUST have there are able to make it, go for it! No regrets! If you have any particular Qs feel free to PM me. :)
I forgot to mention... Make sure you have vendors who don't mind a NYE booking. For us, we got some great deals because winter is an off-season, but I'd double check with the NYE since it's a party night for many groups.
I had a friend get married on NYE in Missouri. If hse can pull it off then im sure you can too... Just dont have it outside...lol
I had a friend have an NYD wedding. There was some logistical trouble for a lot of her OOT guests to actually get into town (us included. After 2 canceled flights we didn't even make it) b/c of bad weather. Also if you have a lot of OOT guests, the costs of flights and hotel rooms are usually outrageous. That combined with bad weather, long lines at the airport etc could make things interesting. Same thing happened to another friend with her NYE wedding. A lot of OOT guests (she had it in her hometown, at least 2 states away from where all of her college friends were coming from) complained about having to go to a wedding on NYE instead of something else. I guess getting home that weekend was horrible too.
On the flip side, if you have no OOT guests and you feel that they would like to have that date go for it.
I think it's possible to have a NYE wedding in Iowa. The weather will be cold, so you wouldn't want to be outside too long. You may or may not have snow (it's hit and miss at that time), but weather in other locations will affect your travelers. For some people this might be a good time though, a lot of people take that week between Christmas and New Years off.
I went to a wedding in the middle of February in South Dakota this past year and it was freezing (like in the negatives!) There was snow everywhere, but it didn't hinder people from attending. The people who love you and want to be there on your special day will make it work...I say go for it!
I have mixed feelings on NYE weddings. If it were my wedding I would love it! However, if I had to travel for someone elses wedding on NYE and brave the chance of to much snow, I might not go. I think it all depends on your situation and what you want! If your friends and family are near-by then go for it!!! Or if your 'must haves' can make it, then go for it!! After all its your wedding ;-)
i think it would be great. one of my fantasies is a russian winter themed wedding. the people that matter will be there no matter what. and prepare to be understanding of travel issues because they will be out of your control. if you want it, do it!

Hey girls!
Just wondered if anyone could give me any input on what they think of a NYE wedding in Iowa. The reason I ask is this; when I tell people I want to do a NYE wedding, I'm met with reasons why I shouldn't, such as the weather could be bad, NYE is on a Friday, no one will be able to get off of work, etc. However, NYE holds significance for my fiance and I. So, I was wondering if I could get any input from fellow cold-weathered friends! Have any of you had a NYE wedding or even a wedding in the middle of winter? Any advice you can give me would be great! Thanks. :)
