Hi mslinh!
How extensive are the alterations? I had the same problem finding a reputable person to do my alterations and finally found a good friend to do it. She is actually a vintage gown alterations experts and eamstress at an Upper East Side dress shop. She also makes the most beautiful wedding veils. She does freelance work outside of the shop and charges VERY reasonably-- mostly for labor involved-- so by the hour.
She doesn't use email, but if you're interested in her info, just PM me!
I just had a local dry cleaner preserve my gown and from the looks of it, they did a pretty good job!
I am using Kiki Hronis (C: 718-523-6067), she was referred by J. Scheer & Co. who drycleaned my sample Amsale down. I don't have my dress back yet ( wedding is in August), but I went for my initial fitting and so far so good ( have another one in June and then in August). She listened to what I had to say and is responsive to any and all voicemails that I left her ( calls back within 24hrs). She is on UES.
She is taking the dress in in chest area, adding petticoat to add fullness to skirt and doing french bustle. No hemming since I am tall and with heels the dress fits perfectly. It's going to be $500, not sure how this compares but honestly, I don't think it's that off in this city ( where everything that has a word WEDDING or BRIDE in it costs 10x more than its normal price, haha). Also I didn't want to risk that something goes wrong with the dress given its price.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions.
I DON'T recommend Kiki Hronis. I had an appointment with her and she cancelled last minute a day before the fitting because she preferred receiving somebody else instead of me!
She told me... Listen Elaine, you are not my only client and I have to take care of other people!!! I had made my appointment a month before, this is so rude!
She never answers her phone either. I recommend you go to Esin -- 212-764-1701 she is super friendly and easy to work with

Hi, does anyone know of a really good seamstress in New york city 5 boroughs who is willing to do some minor alterations to my gown? I am in need of someone good. I am so desperate right now and sick of dealing with chinese people (no offense). i am chinese myself. But i just hate how most of them just want to take your money without a care in the world on how you look in your wedding dress. I need help. Please if someone can suggest someone that would be awesome! :)
Also, anyone have any recommendations on how to preserve my dress? My wedding is not until sept and i really need help with this too. thank you!
