Just saw this NY Times article about the tradition of the cookie table in Pittsburgh weddings, and thought I would share! I am from Pittsburgh, and had one of these tables at my wedding, as did all my friends/family. I was especially excited to see the article reference “lady locks, pizzelles and buckeyes” – these are all family favorites! Seriously, my relatives made cookies for weeks – we had so many! And we do this for all the family members who get married. Friends from out of the area were amazed by the abundance of cookies, all home made. We put out little paper bags so guests can take the leftovers home – there are always way too many 🙂 At my wedding, my husband and I took extras with us after the reception, and they were quite useful for a midnight snack and breakfast the next day!
Just wanted to share, it was fun to see our little tradition highlighted here!

I didn’t even realize it was a western Pa only tradition until I joined WeddingBee, I thought every wedding had a cookie table!

We had a cookie table! I thought is was more of an Italian tradition but my husbands family always does cookie tables at weddings. And they are not a Italian. My family is from Cleveland and his family is not from Pittsburgh but we do live in NE Ohio, about an hour away from Pittsburgh so I guess it’s more of a regional/cultural thing.
