Hello all! My name is Gina and I got engaged about 7 months ago. My fiance and I are still in school so our date won't probably be until early 2010. We're just kinda looking at venues right now because with this semester coming up I won't be able to do any wedding stuff until next January. Anywho, we are interested in possibly renting one of those really nice canopy tents and having an outdoor wedding but a reception under there. Pics are below. Do you all know of any places in Tampa or nearby that will allow us to have a tent (for a small fee)? TIA
Hi Gina! Welcome to the boards. I wish I could help you out with the tent issue but I really can't think of anywhere besides a park that may let you do that. I guess I would check out any and all parks you can find in the Tampa area, and then possibly look into public beaches. I think you may have a tough time getting land on the beach for your reception, but a park might work. Do you know anyone who lives in a community that has a park or big area of land where you might be able to host something like that? I know the community I live in has a big dog park and playground and there is some empty land around both of those. I know there are lots of other communities like that as well. You may not be able to rent the area if you don't live there, but if you have friends or family who do, maybe they could rent the space for you and you pay them back.
Also, if you know anyone who has a large backyard, now might be the time to call in a favor from them.
Sorry I can't help more, I don't have much experience in this area as we are having our reception at a hotel. Good luck!!!!
Congrats! I can't help myself -- I gotta throw in a few cents on the tent. Tent weddings can be lovely, and often are, but they are about the most expensive and most complicated wedding to have. The rentals, the set-up, the need to decorate a completely blank space mean that you need a lot of money and a lot of organization. It's a lot easier to go with a venue that already has what you need (tables, chairs, linen, place settings, points of interest for the eye, dancefloor, flooring, lighting, bathroom facilities .... ). Even when your site is free and you can buy your own liquor, find your own caterer and so on it's difficult for these sorts of savings to make up for the additional expenses.
But if you're on the hunt for a location for a tent, keep in mind that set up will often start a day or two before your wedding and clean up will still probably be going on the day after. That means that you'll need to have the space reserved for a number of days -- so look for a place where this won't be an issue.
Congrats again! I hope this doesn't sound too peachy! Ooops, I mean preachy...
