I’m so thrilled to finally be part of your wonderful community!
A and I met on August 1, 2009 at his small town county fair. My best friend/MOH went to HS with him, and she had invited me to come along for the experience. He approached myself and my other friend (another bridesmaid!) and I immediately knew we were going to get married. We sepnt the rest of the night riding rides, drinking gin bucket, and talking with each other. We were both still in college (USNA for him, Mizzou for me) and we both had significant others at the time. We didn’t talk again until NYE, 2010. At that time, I was still in college, and he was headed to Pensacola to start flight school. We spent the next 11 months having late-night chats on the phone, and sending post-cards and hand-written letters to one another. I baked him cookies (shaped like planes and clouds!) for Valentine’s Day. It was love, but we were not dating. Finally, in November 2011, he came home for Thanksgiving. At that point, he was stationed in Meridian, MS, and I had moved back to St. Louis post-graduation. We agreed to see where life would take us, and so we began our long-distance journey. It definitely wasn’t easy… we faced a lot of criticism from friends who felt that they had been replaced or forgotten. But we managed through monthly visits and road trips to Memphis (our halfway point).

Finally, in November 2013, I moved to Virginia Beach to be with him. In December, we adopted a dog. In March, we bought a house.

And finally, on August 1, 2014, A took me to Dam Neck beach in the pouring rain, called Scout over, got down on one knee, and proposed as he untied my ring from her collar. It was perfect in the most imperfect way. Like I said, it was pouring rain, but the beach was completely empty. And I will forever remember the smell: rain, salt water, sand, and coconut oil.

We had my ring designed at Zachary’s Jewelry in Annapolis, MD. The center stone was on my grandmother’s engagement ring.
Our wedding will be in St. Louis on May 28, 2016. He has deployment coming up, which is why we’re having a longer engagement. Our ceremony will be at St. Francis Xavier and our reception will be at Lemp Grand Hall.
