I was a lurker for a while in the wedding boards but never fully joined, got married in March and now am finding myself lurking in the TTC and pregnancy boards so I figured I’d stop lurking. Lol. I’m having such hard time dealing with timing of TTC- I’m ready now but DH is not. Waiting until December to go off the pill and then waiting 2-3 cycles before TTC. Been on the pill forever and have no idea what my cycle like even like. Trying not to obsess prematurely on getting ready to fertility chart but its super hard and I find myself thinking a lot about fast forwarding! I just want to get to the point where I know what my cycle is and if I can ovulate. Being on the pill for almost 16 years and not knowing what a real period is like I feel so disconnected from my body. Anyone have any suggestions on waiting when your spouse isn’t ready TTC and you are- these next 5 months are going to go so slowly!

@SeaTurtle88: Premature Congrats! 🙂 you’re taking the first step–Learning your body. Even though you aren’t ready to try perhaps talk to DH about you coming off BC now so your body has time to regulate and you can learn your cycle. You can use condoms as prevention. Just a thought…

Come join us at the “waiting to ttc” thread (we are on 4 now). It helps a lot!!

Perhaps you could talk to your DH about using NFP/FAM instead? I went off BC a while back, and now we use NFP to postpone pregnancy. It took about 4 months for my cycle to look normal on the charts (BC messes with your hormones a lot), but ever since then we’ve been happily using NFP to avoid and we have a really good idea of when I’m fertile, what my cycle pattern is, etc. When we do eventually start TTC, I think it’ll go a lot smoother than it would have if we had done it right after coming off BC.
Anyway, just an idea! You have more options than just BC or TTC!

Thanks for the suggestion! going to look into NFP as I don’t really know that much about it. I think I just joined the waiting to TTC conceive thread, if I commented in the right place lol not sure if I did

I recommend NFP and starting to chart ASAP! This will help you read when you are fertile. Also get a book on Natural Fertility. Best of luck on your TTC journey!

I would say learn as much as you can! Learn about how OPKs work, temping, fertile windows (they aren’t just what the online things calculate for you), etc. I also got married in March! DH wasn’t really ready, but he came around to the idea pretty quickly after we got married. I got off BCP at the end of June (after 15 years!). We are still trying… It took my body awhile to regulate. The first cycle off the pill I thought I had all the pregnancy symptoms: sore boobs, hormonal like nobody’s business, heartburn, etc. But it was just my body regulating. I had my first “real” period in August. It can take awhile after coming off BCP. I second joining the Waiting to TTC Chat board. Good luck to you!
