    Hi all,

I plan on breasfeeding for 3-4 months, but I just wanted to get some reviews and suggestions on newborn formula's in case the breastfeeding doesn't work out. I haven't really looked into any certain types, so wondering if those who formula fed can post their experience as well as the brands they used.

    Thanks!

I'd like to see the responses as well. we plan on breastfeeding but we still will have formula on hand for the first few weeks since breast milk doesnt always come in right away and can take some time getting adjusted

There's a sticky under "mothering tips" that is pretty active.

Some hospitals give out samples to new parents right after the baby is born, so that might be a good place to start.  Most commonly, hospitals will stick to the newborn formula of one of the major formula brands (Similac, Enfamil, or Gerber).  Also, you can ask your doctor about having some formula on hand just in case for those first few months, and he/she should be able to recommend a brand to you.

Very smart... I planned on breastfeeding and did no research on formula so I had no clue what I was walking into when breastfeeding didn't work out!

The doctor ended up giving us enfamil, but she had a constipation issue which wouldn't clear up with prune or pear juice. So we switched to a couple of different formulas, and ended up with Gerber good start, gentle. And she also has a couple of ounces of pedialyte every day. She still has her bad days, but for the most part she poo's daily!

I would just ask your doctor. Babies are different, so different formulas will work for different babies. You might just have to see what works for you when your little one gets here. But hopefully you won't even have to worry about it and breastfeeding will be easy peasy :)
