I am having my maternity photos done by a photographer I discovered on Groupon, and I figure if I like the maternity photos/experience, then I will probably have her do our newborn photos as well. She has very good prices (considering many charge $500+ just for the session/retouching, etc) – a session with this photographer (1hr) is $120 and you can purchase the photo disc for $75 with full printing rights, etc. Prints from her range from $2.50 to $65 depending on the size. My groupon was for a 1hr session for only $40, I plan on buying the CD or prints as well, though.

I found a great package deal in town. It’s $200 for 4 shots (maternity, new born, 6 months and 1 year). Each sitting includes an hour of shooting time, and a  disc with 10 edited shots (colour, b&w and sepia versions of each)

We’ll probably have them done when we have little ones. Our wedding photographer does baby shoots, too, for $225, or $500 for a “growing up” package (1 month, 4 month, 8 month, 12 month).

We are doing newborn shots, it’s costing $200 for an unlimited amount of hours and poses during the shoot at our house, we get a disc with between 6-10 photos that are fully edited.

We had our wedding photographer do a shoot. $300 for 3+ hours (he stayed until we felt we were finished, not sure how long it was.) We got over 3,000 photos and all photo rights (he doesn’t edit photos, they are perfect without it). But our guy is awesome!!

I have been researching and have been shocked at the prices.  Good photography is expensive but all the options in my area include a $200 sitting fee and then you have to buy the images. $1600 buys the sitting fee and all the images on a disk.  $700 buys the sitting fee and 4 edited photos.  Seems expensive 🙁

@fsowife:  This sounds like what I’m coming across. One photog I found wants $85 for each picture on a disc.
