About 6 weeks or so they tend to be a little more alert and focused. Smiles aren't too far behind at that point:)
LOL. This is so that you can get some sleep as well. Take advantage!!!
Funny! As soon as I posted this, I thought: What are you thinking, woman? This is why people say to sleep when she sleeps, I guess!
EDIT: I can't sleep when all I want to do is hug and kiss on her!
@eurekaanchovies: Yes they are hard to give up snuggle time with. But trust me you will need to be well rested yourself as well.
Seriously? I have heard that they wake up about every 2 hours even at night and that new mother are always exhausted because of that. That has always been part of my fear of having children.
Not all babies. My 13 yo slept 5-6 hours at a time at night within the 1st week being home.
I am hoping I get as lucky with this new one as well....once can dream can't they? lol
I think when my DD was just learning to crawl was about the same time she started consolidating sleep. She slept longer at night and less during the day. But she was a sleeper!
I think it just depends on the baby. My 2 1/2 month old still takes lots of naps during the day, but she cat naps. They're always very short, but often.
@eurekaanchovies: i was wondering the same thing..my daughter is 3 weeks 2 days .. shes awake awake for probably 3 hours combined a day...she cries when shes hungry but when she eats shes pretty out of it so I don't consider that to be awake...for the first two weeks she was sleeping 23 hours a day.. but she was jaundice so the dr said that was normal
My DD slept aaaalll the time when she ws first born. I did nurse her every two hours 24/7 for the first month, but she practically slept through those feedings as well.
I don't remember all that sleeping after the first week or two or I was not using my time wisely. Hahah! You are all so blessed with nice, sleepy babes!! :)
You'll get busy getting things done but try to give yourself a nap when she sleeps some of the time...you'll be wishing you did a few months from now when she naps way less! ;) My DD sleeps 12 hours at night but isn't a great napper anymore.

At what time do babies generally begin to be more alert and awake during the day, as opposed to sleeping the day away?
