Finally!! I thought I was the only one on here 🙂
I’ll be honest, I can’t find much in that department either. I’ve come across some great photographers and I’ve been to some lovely receptions but it’s really hard getting any information around here. Have you started dress shopping yet? So far, I’m hitting a wall… no samples of anything I’m interested in..ugh!
Sorry I wasn’t much help, but at least we can vent to one another..haha!!

I know what you mean. There seems to be lots of great photogs around here but everything else is hard to research… not a lot of stuff can be found online.
I have just been browsing dresses casually so far online. I am still a ways off from my date and really have no clue what I want yet.

Hi! I’m a Newfoundland Bee! Are there any other active Newfie bees here?
I’m getting married in St. John’s.

@n75nva: I totallyforgot about this thread! I am still active here on the bee. We have decided that we are doing the Destination Wedding thing now though.
Where do you plan on getting married?

I live in Quebec but I am a Newfoundlander and am getting married in St. John’s! I finding great luck with things. I am tentatively booked (confirming Monay) to get married and have my reception at the CLB. It costs $200 to rent and meals are $15.50 each, tax included. theCLB.ca My photographer is Jennifer Dawe. Her portfolio looks fantastic and I’ve met her and she’s a great person to be around too. Definitely check her site out if you’re still looking. Her packages are awesome too!
Depending on how many people you’re having, the Benevolent Irish Society is also worth taking a look for your reception. Very good deal! 130 people is their capacity.
Aaand, if you’re lloking to buy your dress in St. John’s, go to the Bridal Salon on George Street! I had such an amazing time, they were so helpful. They keep their dresses in excellent condition so if you’re like me and come across one that you love and it fits, you can buy it! After my first appointment there I went across to the Model Shop and it was terrible. Soooo many people there, and you can’t get any help. The dresses were in awful condition. I was there in August and the only dress I liked, I was told got discontinued back in April!

And by George Street I meant Water Street! Can’t edit my post for some reason.
Just wanted to stop by here and say, COME BACK TO THE THREAD NEWFOUNDLAND BRIDES!
Where are some spots you want to get photos at? Originally (and probably for most of my life) I wanted photos in Bowring Park. However, my venue (for ceremony and reception) is the CLB on Harvey road, I don’t want to waste all my photo time driving around. So Banerman park is my new park photo spot. My mom sent me a NL wedding planning booklet which has a list of good photo locations around St. John’s. Thought I’d share:
- Bowring park (obviously!)
- Government House
- Colonial Building (this is close by my venue so I plan to use it!)
- Quidi Vidi Vilolage
- Signal Hill
- The Battery
- Middle Cove Beach
- George Street (definitely using this one!)
- Topsail Beach (I’d use this if it was closer)
- Memories Forever Garden
- Leaside Mano
- Manuels River
- Bannerman Park
- Cape Spear

For transportation, I just came across something I never did before whenook for transportation. It’s MyChauffeur.ca. They have two classic cars available, a 1938 Chevy and a Pontiac, but I can’t remember the year. I did a few searches for cars like these to rent and never found a thing! So I wanted to make sure all the St. John’s/NL brides knew!

Hey! I’m a fellow NL bride-to-be as well. I’m getting married next summer at Lester’s Farm Chalet and attempting to have lots do DIY decorations (hence my username). If anyone has some good ideas for a rustic/vintage wedding feel free to throw them my way!

Have you booked a photographer? Mine was amazing! As was my florist if you’re looking for one! Both good cost wise too!

Oh wow! Hi! I am a Newfoundland bride as well, getting married next summer (September 1st) at the Glendenning Golf Course. 🙂 I saw your flowers, gmcurtis, and they are beautiful. Who was your florist? (You said it was good cost-wise, and that always piques my interest, haha!)
