- Wedding: June 2013
Just an introduction post 🙂
FI and I met in November 2011. We met on match.com. I knew from the first date something was special about him. I was a single mother, so I had a “checklist” of things I was looking for in a future husband. Amazingly, he met and exceeded everything I was looking for!
Totally out of character, but I let him take my daughter and me to the children’s museum for our second date. She was 16 months at this time. He was so wonderful with her. He had never even really been around kids. But they just instantly clicked. And he and I seemed to be clicking even more ourselves.
From that point on, we’ve been almost inseparable. I finished my Master’s the next month and started a new job. In early April, I was laid off due to a funding crisis with the state. We decided at that point I would break my lease and move into the house he’s owned for 4 years. The transition was smooth as silk. We get along so well, are both on the same pages about everything, and he has embraced his role as daddy from the beginning.
I began my new job at the end of May. We had discussed getting engaged around the end of the year to plan for a summer 2013 wedding. But when we started looking into the benefits package I was being offered and the steps for a stepparent adoption, we decided to bump things up for the sake of ease and legal reasons. We decided to do a JOP ceremony in September of this year and still plan for a “wedding” the next June. So we started ring shopping. I made a list of my top 3 for him to choose from (knowing, of course, he would get the one I fell in love with!). He went back one Saturday with his dad and stepmom to show them and look at diamonds to put in the setting.
I can usually read him like a book, but he fooled me! I thought they were just looking and he wouldn’t be buying until August when he could access his full 401k. Our daughter went to my parents last weekend and we took a quick weekend getaway to the beach (it was also to show him where we would be having the ceremony and reception). It never even dawned on me that he might be planning to propose that weekend until he was acting strange while walking on the beach. He was nervous and kept fiddling with his pocket. Then he dropped to one knee and presented me with this beauty 🙂
