In an effort to get a more active Newlywed board, we have decided to have a little introduction to all the newlyweds buzzing around the hive (and not so newlyweds too). So here we go:
I'm MissAsB. I live in Alabama now, was married in Colorado. My husband and I have been married just over 9 months now. We are currently renting our home in AL but we own a rental property back in CO. I am trying to get into baking more now that I am married but I don't want to go overboard because I don't want to gain a ton of weight! Currently, I am a full time grad student but I'm trying to find another job. As for the future? My husband and I are hoping that in the next year or so we decide where we want to live and will be able to sell our old house and buy a new one.
What about everyone else?
I am Mr. Bee. I live in Brooklyn with my wife Bee and my son, Charlie Bear. Oops, I mean Charlie Cole - we just call him Charlie Bear, because kids make you speak in baby talk and it's disgustingly sweet but even I have gotten sucked in (but I can quit any time I want).
We're not quite adjusted to life with a kid, but we're trying to make it a point to go out somewhere fun and exciting twice a month. Because I am the hunter/gatherer in the relationship (not really), I'm trying to find fun stuff to do together... I'll report back on how that goes!
Oh and the real reason I commented: I stickied the post for you guys. :-)
Aww Charlie Bear! Of course you can quit the baby talk, it doesn't have a hold on you! Good luck with finding the fun stuff. I need to work on that, but it's hard to find fun free things!
And thanks for the stickie!
Hi. I'm Terry. Yrret is Terry spelled backwards. I live in Seattle but my heart remains in Philly because I was born and raised in the Philly suburbs. Seattle is ok. hehe
My wedding was 4 months ago in Philly, of course. (Nov. 28, 2009). I work full time as a scientist at a small biotech company. I'm also working on my masters in pharmacology. Oh, and a few weeks ago, I was selected to be a hostess. It's great! It feeds my addiction to WB. lol
I'm a Philadelphia Eagles fan and a Penn State Alumni ('06). Go Eagles and Nittany lions!
Now that I've been married for 4 months, I'm getting used into the whole wife thing. DH and I are not ready for kids, now. We told each other that we will wait 2 year after the wedding to have kids. We already have names pick out. I have gotten that urge to have kids lately... but I need to remind myself to be patient.
We are going on our delayed honeymoon in April to Cancun. Can't wait!
EDIT: Oh, my avatar there is my cute dog, Hershey. She's a shar pei mix. I can see the wrinkles in her face. We named her Hershey because DH and I love the amusement park, Hershey park in Hershey, PA. (Had to name her something from the east coast.) I know she isn't all brown but we figure that she has a chocolate head and a cookies and cream body. (She has brown and black spots on her body.) She loves me... ok... she is obsessed with me. She follows me around constantly, she's like a shadow. My DH is jealous because he's the dog person and I'm more of a cat person. He has asthma and is apparently more allergic to cats. His response when I asked him if I can get a cat? "Sure, you get your cat and I'll get my dog and then my dog will eat your cat and then we'll have both!" Yeah, he's funny, isn't he?
I'm JeniRae- been buzzing around the bee for a few years (!) now and don't intend to leave. :)
I live and work and go to school in Pittsburgh, PA. I am a grad student in audiology and in my last academic semester (I have 3 clinical semesters after this). My husband is an engineer and is currently in Shanghai, China for work. We are parents to our beagle, Mocha (see avatar) and will be hopefully adopting her a doggie playmate in the near future. We're new homeowners and I'm documenting the process in our blog (link in profile). Besides my husband, my house, and my dog, I love spending time with our families, photography, cooking and bargain hunting! :)
Hi, I'm azula, and I've been married for just a little over two weeks :D We currently live in Maryland but we got married in Puerto Rico because that's where I'm from. Now that we're back home, life is slowly going back to normal. My husband and I are both astronomers. He's a postdoc who does research in galaxy formation, and I'm a grad student currently writing my PhD thesis on black hole mergers, hoping to graduate before the end of the year. We have two adorable kitties who are, for all intents and purposes, our sons. And my username comes from the name of my favorite character in the animated series "Avatar: The Last Airbender".
Konnichiwa! I'm xoxokristin and hubby and I live in Tokyo at the moment. We got married on March 8th at the city office so that we could fulfill the requirements of a DCF visa to bring my British hubby back home with me to America in October. We'll be having a ceremony and reception then in my parent's backyard in LA. Nevertheless, we've got a piece of paper that says we're married, so we're Newlyweds! We met here in Tokyo in 2007 and have been inseperable ever since. We moved in together almost 2 years ago so not much has changed for us in terms of newlywed life. We are happy as clams in the same old place doing the same old thing (teaching English). As for the future, we are moving to America "the land of opportunity" with no jobs, starting fresh, and hoping to find a place in San Francisco to settle in, start careers there, and hopefully a family although we are still a bit young (he is 27, I'm 24).
Excited to hear more about all the newlyweds!
I'm loving this already! Getting to know everyone better is great!
I'm Amanda...and I'm 30...and I'm ok with it. DH is Eric and we have been married a whole 2 weeks tomorrow! I am loving married life!! I work as an HR manager but really in IT and DH works with the mentally handicapped. We live in Upstate NY and are buying are first home as we speak. We are actually building our first home and are loving every step of it (besides the bank!)
Hey all! I am Andreaandchinelo :) I live in a condo Washington, DC with my husband and cat and currently work at a radio station here. my husband is a Math teacher at on of the charter schools and he comes home with interesting stories every night :) and not just from the kids...
We've been married for 6 months and i'm finally getting settled into the whole I-really-do-have-his-last-name thing...wroking with the DMV on that was hard but i've pushed through :) now if I can just change everything else...
I've been buzzing around here since I googled cheap table linens in the DC area last year and have been hooked ever since! Man Weddingbee helped me out sooo much and still does now that we're TTC :)
i've been a newlywed for a little over two weeks! we've been living together for awhile though, so as a lot of people say it's not very different. so far all we've done is the honeymoon (which was amazing!), and i've started the name changing process (which sucks). i'm in fl, lived here my whole life. i have a degree in art and art therapy, but i'm currently unemployed and taking advantage of that to ttc soon.
I'm Kayakgirl73 and I got married on October 31, 2009. I know it's Halloween but that was an accident of venue availability not choice. We got married in my hometown in West Virginia. I currently live in Virginia's Washington DC suburbs. Before I got married I lived in Maryland's DC suburbs. My husband and I did not live together before we got married so in addition to married life, we are getting used to living together.
I'm a Reference Librarian in a Washington, DC law firm. I like my job most of the time. I have an MLIS in Library Science and a BA in Political Science. I'm a little older than most Bees. I'm 36.
I sold my condo and we live in DH's condo. We hope to be able to afford a house soon, however, we're under water in the condo at the moment. I think a baby in maybe a year or so since we're not getting any younger and we do want kids.
My hobbies are Reading, surfing the web, Kayking, Biking and Quilting. I'm learning to cook better and I love to bake although it doesn't make my hips too happy. I love HGTV.
OOps I wrote a book, thanks for bearing with me.
Hello. My name is maisymay and I've been married almost 3 months. Somedays it feels like we tied the knot yesterday, other days it feels like we've been married forever. My nickname here is a nickname a roommate gave me in college. :-)
My husband and I live in Morgan Hill, CA, the southern edge of the Bay Area. He's a route manager for a dry cleaning company and I work for a publishing company. We're both young (I'm 23, he's 22) but pretty mature and responsible.
Random fact about us: we're both twins. I'm older than my twin sis by about 1 minute, and his twin sis is about 2 minutes older. It shows in our personalities sometimes as I am definitely a stubborn, take charge sort of gal (ok, ok, some say bossy) and he's laid back.
We met in college but didn't start dating until 1 month before my graduation. We stuck together through my M.A., the rest of his B.A. and time outta school. Neither of us are perfect, but we're perfect for each other.
This is great!
I'm Erin and I got married last July. The hubs and I live outside of DC and have been house hunting since shortly after the wedding. I've been spending an unhealthy amount of time thinking about all the projects we'll have once we finally find a place.
I'm a museum educator, and mostly love my job. The only downside is that my schedule is pretty grueling sometimes. (I think March may actually kill me, I can't believe it's only half-over!)
@Terry - another Philly girl here! Fly Eagles fly!
I'm LoTam and I've been a newlywed for just under 6 months now. I found the bee when I google searched my wonderful dress - Augusta Jones, Sterling and another bee had posted a pic of it. Even though my big day has come and gone, I still enjoy helping others with the process.
Husband and I went to college together but started dating the day after graduation...figures. We're both from Philly and bonded over our love for the Phillies (this was way before they were world champs...we stick with them through thick and thin.) We currently live in NJ where husband is finishing his PhD this summer. I commute into NYC to my job as a social worker that I love...but I do not love spending 2 hours a day on NJ Transit.
I'm patiently awaiting the day we can adopt a dog, as we're both big dog lovers. That will come when my commute gets shorter or husband is home more. And we're currently in the midst of planning a trip to France or Italy..maybe our last big trip before babies!
@yrret and @lotam240: I was born in Philly but we moved to NJ because my parents didn't want to pay private school tuition.
I'm egb, 27, married for just under two months now. We had the most amazing (for us) wedding in Punta Cana, and had our honeymoon there when our guests left.
I started living with my hubby as soon as we got engaged, so I guess nothing's really different, except that now that we're not planning the wedding, I am getting more and more into decorating the house - nesting - to make it feel more like home. DH got this house 5 years ago, but as a bachelor, never bothered too much with the deco... Now I'm trying to convince him that organizing closets can be practical and pretty! :)
Other than WBee and my new deco passion, I am into sports; DH and I train together in martial arts, cycling, running. We also take dance lessons; and love the outdoors.
We won't have kids for another couple of years, as we wish to cross some countries off of our wish list first. This summer we're heading to Spain, then Costa Rica next Christmas, and if we manage our money well, we may give it a go for Japan before TTC.
I'm happy to have such a great community here; and it's nice to officially meet you all!
I'm Ms. Editor, 26, and I'm an editor. (No kidding, right?) I work in educational publishing just north of Chicago. My husband is getting his doctorate in psychology. We don't have plans to have kids or buy a house in the near future, so I'm focusing on cooking and starting my newlywed blog. I feel like I read WB more now as a newlywed than I did when I was planning!
@Ms.Editor: I am on WB way more now than I was planning! I barely had free time when I was planning.
@kayakgirl I went to grad school for Library and Information Science too ....but stopped halfway due to motivation. Learned a lot of helpful things along the way though.
I remained an elementary school teacher in the classroom and am joyfully adjusting to ups and downs of married life with my DH. We plan to procreate next month if at all possible while on our 'big' honeymoon in Europe. This is despite many fears of becoming a mom that I have overcome in a short time. We had a relatively short courtship and engagement and managed to buy our 'forever house' while wedding planning. Pretty huge step in becoming a homeowner and homemaker b/c we both come from backgrounds where neither of our divorced parents ever actuallly OWNed a house in all of our childhood. We didn't live together until after the wedding which surprises some people. I enjoy surfing (in the ocean and online) reading and watching movies. We love to invite people over to the house to have simple, intimate dinners on the weekend.
Discovered Weddingbee and was on it for all but one month of my engagement period. it helped immensely!
@808: Wow, that's a lot of change in a short period of time! Good luck on the honeymoon!
Hi DC bees @Kayakgirl and @Erin!!!!
and I agree...I spend much more time on WB now that the wedding is over...I was actually a post leader one day...I never was when I was planning!
I'm JoesWifey and I'm 22 years old (hubby is 24). Ive been married almost 10 months now. I'm so happy with my life. It's not perfect and there's a million things I wish I could have and do, but I have my Mr. Joe and it makes me so happy. I feel incredibley lucky! I work as a babysitter/nanny for a 4 year old girl and 7 year old boy and I'm currently going to school part time. I'm working on getting my Associates in Early Childhood Education and once I finish that (about a year) I plan to take a break and start our trying for a baby, then pursue my Bachelors. My husband works at an animal shelter and has a BA in Psychology. He's hoping to get into grad school for the fall. An interesting tidbit about us is that we're an interratial couple (I'm caucasian, he's Chinese). It's taking me awhile to get used to my new last name as a result, but living in NYC with so much diversity definitely helps! (Back where I was from in Indiana, there were maybe 2 Asian people total in my high school and one was just a temporary forgeign exchange student). We actually met through a game online and have been together for a total of almost 6 years!
I like this thread!
I'm ContraryMary, and Mr. Contrary and I were originally married in Nov. 08 but we had our big wedding with a ceremony and reception just last October. We live in Placentia, a small city in Orange County, CA with our two crazy cats. Mr. is an electric engineer, and I'm a fha closer (in the mortgage business).
Currently we are hoping to try to get pregnant by beginning of next year. Either that or buy a bigger house than our tiny one we have right now (he moved in, and its been really tough trying to fit all our stuff in). I'm really trying to start cooking at home more often (my pots and pans were all brand new a few months ago!) even if its just once or twice a week. Using a lot of coupons for groceries, restaurants, and whatever activities we do! But we need to start saving up for our future baby and our house so we're really trying to make sacrifices!
I'm MrsBrad and I'm from NZ. We met online almost 5 years ago and got married last October in our home town. I'm kinda glad all the wedding planning is over and I'm loving being married. At the moment we have no plans to buy a house or have a baby, we just want to travel and enjoy each other for a few more years. I'm also studying Project Management and Business part time. I love to bake but I take everything to work to share since I don't need the extra calories - I always lick the bowl tho : )
I'm Jenn and my hubby and I were married this past October in Forest Hill, CA and live in Folsom with his two teenage daughters. Can you say "adjustment?"! I am 40, he is 45 and we have two weiner dogs too. I am searching for a job, laid off 6 months ago, and I will finally change my last name once I find a new position!
Ladyjenn - you don't look anywhere near 40!!! Beautiful bouquet by the way.
Yay! I am loving this thread!
I am MissRain, and I have been married just about 2 and a half months now. I'm 24 and my husband is 26. My husband and I live in Austin, TX but both grew up elsewhere. We are not Texas by any stretch of the imagination, but Austin is a great city and we love living here. Right now we are in a precarious place in life-- not really sure how much longer his job will hold out, and I am in an AWFUL job doing everything I can to get out, so it's not much fun.
On the up-side, marriage itself is great. We are holding off on kids for a few years to give us lots of time for travel and life experience, and in July we are traveling to the South Pacific to visit my parents! I grew up on an island, you see, and haven't been home in 4 years and now I get to show my husband where I grew up!
Hey my fellow Bees!
I am Mrs. Roddy and we have been married for 6 months now but I have been buzzing around for a year or so now. I am 28 and the hubs is 29 and we currently reside in Bethlehem, PA about an hour or so from Philly-Philly (Yay to the E-A-G-L-E-S, Phils and Sixers!). We both work in IT (he-hardware, me-software) so it is not surprising that we met through Yahoo Personals.
Come June 25, we are expecting our first baby and it's a GIRL! We call her our little prototype as she is the first Roddy girl in the family for nearly 50 years. So apparently she was kicking butt and taking names :). In addition to our little one, my FIL and his poochie, Buddy, live with us as well, so we really have a packed house. So our future goal is to buy our first home next year.
This really is a great post! I was interested in knowing a little bit more about the rest of the NWs.
Oh let's see, we've been married 9 months. We live in St. Louis, where he was born and raised, but I was raised in Southern California so I get a little culture clash still. We went to a small engineering school in Missouri, met my freshman year (his senior), dated for 4.5 years before we got married, about 4 of those were long distance. We have a 15 month deployment stint under our belts and are seasoned travelers, haha. I'm addicted to ethnic food, I'm 1/4 Korean, and I'm in love with my 2 fur-babies, Sushi and Sambi. My husband was in the Army but got home in November and is still looking for a job. In my spare time, I'm a gym-aholic, I enjoy cooking, sewing, decorating, and I have an earring fetish. I buy earrings. It's what I do.
I just applied to radiation therapy school for this coming August and my back up is applying to Physician Assistant school for next August. In the meantime, we're just chugging along. I'm an engineer right now, but as of either May or August, depending on what happens, I won't be. Looking forward to a new chapter.
No babies for us anytime soon. I have zero desire as of yet (i'm 24) and he's told me he's not ready yet (he's 27 next month) but we want to have our first by the time he's 30 and done by the time he's 35.
I also like sugar free white chocolate mochas from It's a Grind. Yum. I don't like chocolate, but i like swedish fish. Wrap your brains around that.
Hi I'm Piccateer! My name comes from an old high school joke...I played the piccolo in my high school marching band with two other girls and we were like the three muskateers...so we were piccateers. Anyway...DH and I have been married for over 8 months now (wow!) and I discovered the 'bee thanks to a coworker who told me it would keep me entertained for hours and hours. She wasn't lying!
We are currently building a house in the town we grew up in, which is crazy because I always said I would never go back. However, I've recently discovered how much I miss spending alot of quality time with family, so I'm eager to move back and really settle into one of those picturesque suburban lifestyles.
We weren't high school sweethearts, but we did go to the same high school. We knew each other, but our paths never really crossed until I came back from college and we started hanging out through a mutual friend. We became great friends, then I realized he was super cute and one thing led to another and here we are.
I work for an orchestra, which is my dream job and I have wanted to work here since I was 12. DH is in IT, which is quite handy when my computer does anything weird. We really want to get a corgi. A small part of me is itching to have a baby, but DH says he's not ready to share me with anyone yet. Married life is stressful sometimes, but that typically melts away when we are going to sleep and I look over at him and can't help but smile because this is what everyone talks about
We've been married for 8 months. Our wedding was in Nova Scotia, in my hometown. My best friend's wedding was one week after ours, in the same church. :)
We live in New Brunswick now, but met and started dating in Ottawa, Ontario, in 2006. We are both proud Canadians and although we enjoy traveling we could never imagine living anywhere else.
I am 27, he is 28, and we both work for the provincial government. He really loves his job, but I would leave mine in a heartbeat. I am not the most domestic person around (which my husband would say is the understatement of the year), and he is a better cook than I am, but I am "coming along" and have expended my repetoire beyond grilled cheese and spaghetti. Maybe I'll grow to like it over time, but for now I usually avoid the kitchen like the plague. I prefer to spend my time reading, cross-stitching, and catching up with family and friends. Now that we're not planning a wedding anymore, I find that we have a lot more time for that!
We have two cats, Apollo and Abby, and we are planning to start trying for a baby around June/July. I have had baby fever for a while now, so that seems like light years away!
I don't remember how I found weddingbee, but I was definitely queen of the lurkers - I never even made one post until after the wedding! I am glad that the 'Bee is expanding to involve more communities with the nesting boards.
I really like this thread and am looking forward to hearing more about the other newlyweds on here!
Yay! I love meeting all of you. This was a great idea. :)
I'm Ashley (Annie is a screen name I created in Jr High b/c I loved orphan Annie growing up) I'm 26 & so is the hubs.
We have been married for almost 5 months! Got married in Austin, but live in Dallas. Hubs is a Sr. Financial Analyst and I work as an Program/ Event Coordinator for a non profit.
We are currently in the whirlwinds of trying to buy our first place. We have put an offer on 3 homes and lost all three! The first we chose not to purchase due to the inspection, the 2nd we were outbid, and the 3rd our offer was more but the other offer was a cash deal so they went with them.....FUSTRATED!!!
We have a 4 year old Golden Retriever named Ginger. We love going to happy hours and are huge beer connoisseurs! Hubs plays the drums & I love to scrapbook!
Hi! I'm 2PeasinaPod. I'm 29, and Mr. Pea is 30. We were married in September of 2007 in Bethlehem, PA which is about an hour north of Philly (Go Phils!).
I had a rough experience wedding planning, so I really wanted to help others out to make it easier for them after my wedding. I was helping a friend when she found this board, and I'm hooked :o)
We just bought our forever home in September (a good month for us apparently) about a half hour north of Philly in the burbs, and I work in HR in center city Philly while my husband is a biologist and works about 5 minutes from home.
I love to run and read in my spare time, and Mr. Pea is finishing up his masters in biology in a few weeks...so he's going to re-discover what he likes to do for fun in his spare time now that he'll have some!
It's so fun getting to learn more about everyone. Thanks.
@Annie, I feel your pain!
We've been house hunting since August, and have only put in one offer, but I am devastated that it was rejected on Monday (after an almost 3-week delay!). I hope you guys find the perfect house soon!
Hey there! I'm Caitlan. I married J six months ago and just started the name change process a week ago. Whoops. :-)
I was born and raised in a little fruit farm in Western Colorado (Palisade) which is also where we got married. We just bought a house a couple weeks ago in Cheyenne, WY and I absolutely love it. One scary thing is that J really wants to be a head rodeo coach but since there are so few of those jobs we'll probably have to move for it, despite just having bought our lovely house. We did make sure to buy a house that we *should* be able to turn around and sell again fairly easily without taking a loss so hopefully he gets one soon. Not only would it make him SO happy and fulfilled but a steady, well-paying career = babies, at least in my head. :-) And while I'm not totally ready to give up my pre-children newlywed status, I do get hit with pretty decent bouts of baby fever every few months.
Oh, and we have a horse and a dog and I regularly fantasize about getting companions for them since we just lost our other dog. Maybe a goat to keep my pony company? And the dog would LOVE to have a buddy to tumble around with, he definitely misses the canine company. I'm just not sure if I can get another dog so soon though...
Hi, I'm Mrs. Spring. My husband and I live in Lake Tahoe, and we are coming up on our first year anniversary. My husband is an engineer; he works full-time and is currently pursuing his MS in Environmental Engineering. I work in Human Resources, but I'm looking forward to going back to school in the next couple of years to get my Master's of Library Sciences degree.
We have two dogs, Louie and George, and a baby on the way (due in June)! We don't know the baby's sex because we wanted to be surprised in the delivery room. Right now, my husband is preparing for a new baby by remodeling the bathroom. Yep, he's a bit of an overachiever. :) And I'm preparing by reading a ton of pregnancy and birth books. We also own a rental property in Montana (where we lived before moving here), and we just bought our second home last September, in preparation of our new addition.
It's so nice to meet everyone!
