I'm not a newlywed yet, but this weather is DEFININTELY making me stay in more. I finally got myself back to the gym and I'm TRYING to get Mr. KM to join with me.
I'm sort of both. I watch a lot of TV but I'm also going back to the gym these past few weeks. I don't have any ideas for interior activities unless you have a Wii or some other system that you can use. Once it gets lighter, I really think that biking or hiking together would be a lot of fun.
We're not newlyweds, but we do live together and when we first moved in together about a year ago we were DEFINITELY couch potatoes! I think we were so excited to share a home we didn't want to leave it :)
not a newlywed, but i definitely became more of a couch potato when my guy and i moved in with each other. i'm kind of a tv junkie to begin with, though, so my experience may be out of whack.
@MissASB- good idea! We used to always play guitar hero and wii. We don't anymore though! We should do those again! And maybe break out the DDR too!
I second the guitar hero, Wii and other games! It feels like you're doing *something* at least. 5 hours of TV is incomprehensible to me unless I'm sick but maybe that's bc Australian TV only has 5 channels and not much on those anyways!
@mountain bride - well we don't really watch 5 hours of cable tv. Nothing is on our tv channels either. We have netflix instant play now so we can watch entire seasons of previous tv shows through our PS3. We also got some entire seasons of tv shows on dvd as christmas presents.
@mountain.bride my husband and I were MUCH more active and watched less tv while living in Sydney!!! However, now I'm super excited that one of the shows we watched, Underbelly is coming to the states!
So, another TV show to add to the dvr Q :)
i do feel like we've become couch potatoes...but not just watching tv we're also on the computer for a couple hours in the evening too! but i'm enjoying our time together since within a year or so we'll have kids and won't have time to chill out as much.
I'm definitely napping a lot more, but I tend to do that in the winter anyway. Plus I'm still (for one more day) on Winter break from Grad school so I'm soaking up all the down time I can get! My husband is about to start tax season (he's a CPA) so he's also indulging in what little downtime remains. We'll see if this keeps up once school and tax season are over in May.
I was for like a week, but I got SOOOO bored. I'm so antsy right now. I start actual classes next week, but I'm getting ahead by studying my vocab cards now (I'm taking 9 credits so uh, it'll help to be prepared!) and really cranking on a quilt I'm making as a baby gift. It's much easier to lay it all out now so all I have to do is piece it together down the road.
I get so bored being a couch potato. I can take 1 hour of tv/night, but it seems like i'm always doing something while watching!
In a word, ah..... YES.
But - I truly believe that its' the weather, for us. We aren't used to this cold, nasty weather we've been having and we've just been hibernating until it's over. Once it's warm again, we'll be out and about doing or normal things.
We have definately become more sedentary since we met, not necessarily since the wedding though, it started before that lol. I NEVER used to watch tv, then into the course of our relationship we slowly started watching shows together. We'd get into them & then be like "Oh, it's Tuesday so & so comes on!" So we'd stay in to watch it & forego our evening walks, etc. It's an easy habit to get into, and the weather lately has NOT be encouraging us to get outside. I have recently started working out again though, so at least that helps.
We aren't newlywed yet, but we hang out at home a lot! We play Wii though, and do puzzles, and play board games! We have a 2 year old runnin around so most of our activities are home or family based! :)
Umm, yes!
After our September wedding, I didn't want to do squat for a month. I literally just wanted to sit on the couch and stare at the wall. It was rough. Then the holidays started to creep up on us, and I got my motivation back.
BUT, now that the holidays are over, I'm back into the couch potato phase. I'd never believed in Season Affective Disorder until I moved to Chicago three years ago, and now I think I have it. Come January through mid-April, I can't do anything. It's freezing outside, it's dark by 4:30 and I've lost my will to shop, so I know something's up. Every day after work, I do nothing but sit on the couch watching TV. It's all I want to do. I can't motivate myself to do anything else.
I honestly think it's the weather.
We are trying to veg and spend as much time together as possible. I start classes a week and a half, and once that happens things will get crazy so we're trying to take advantage of it while we can
Clearly?! Its almost midnight, I'm writing on Wedding Blogs and on my 6th hour of a SVU Marathon! I'm about to wave the white flag...but that would require me untangling myself from my snuggie on the sofa and actually move!
Yeah, we've definitely become more potato-like over the last while since getting married. I think there are a few factors at play, like the weather and the fact that he's working long days, so when he gets home he's hungry and tired and doesn't want to do much more than veg, and I feel bad pushing him to.
We're both sick of it though, and actually had a conversation earlier this week about buying snowshoes for tramping through the park close to our house. We've also got Guitar Hero and Rock Band, and some friends who like to play cards and board games.
OMG YES! I agree with Miss Chapstick, the seasons totally affect my mood and energy levels. I live in Missouri, and from about right after Christmas til it starts warming back up in March/April I never want to do anything or go anywhere.
I definitely spend more time at home in general, and laying around in front of the tv for sure!
Part of it is because I tried to stay really busy during our long-distance relationship, so I used to go out a lot just to keep my mind off things. Now that we've settled into a routine (that's not college any more!) it feels so much more comfortable and easier to stay in and relax than being overly social.
We do a lot of reading as well so we're not just looking at the tv screen all night.

Since we got married we have spent more time at home watching tv. I don't know if it is the cold weather or what, but we probably watch 5+ hours of tv a night. I know we need to get out and move more but I don't know what to do when it is pitch black outside by the time we get home and below zero.
Any ideas of how we can stay more active as a couple?
