I don't know yet, but I too would love to find out what others are doing with their dress!
I had my dress preserved and it's in a box in my closet now! I don't know if I'm going to have children or not so the passing it on may not be an option but I didn't want to get rid of mine!
I have no idea and my parents keep telling me to figure it out because its in a closet at their house. Im definitely not selling it (though the thought crossed my mind when we really needed money) so Ill probably just end up cleaning and boxing it. Its almost been 6 months, I think I really need to get on it!
Mine is in a wad in the back of our closet. I love my dress and can't imagine selling it. I've been lazy about taking it in to get cleaned and perserved...or maybe it's not laziness but the fact I've had other uses for $150.
Haha, I'm so glad to hear that I'm no the only one with a wedding dress hanging in a closet!! It's in the guest room closet and I just can't decide what to do with it.
BTW, someone at our wedding kept telling me to throw it in the washing machine with some oxyclean on gentle, um, that's not a risk I'm willing to take!!
Its currently laying in a basket in the hall. I'm going to put it back in its bag and hang it up and then once it gets warm again were going to do another session and then I'm not sure what we're going to do with it
It's hanging in the guest bedroom closet since the moment we got home. It got really filthy at the bottom (extremely gross) and my bustle totally ripped out. I don't even know if it can be salvaged. I actually didn't get very good reception pictures so I was thinking about doing a post-trash-the-dress photo session to finish 'er off. Eh, we'll see.
Glad to hear it's not just me! I wish I had a big enough room where I could put it in a glass box on display. lol. I love it!!!!! This is prob the option I will go but what do you think of the bassinette idea? Ive been googling websites like this http://www.lamb-co.com/ and they are cute. Some people use thier veil to drape over it too. I dont know if I could do that though. I still have alot of time to think since I dont plan on having kids for 1.5-2 years.
Im actually going to have my dress cut shorter and then i will dye it probably black. that way i can wear it to parties and special events. its so simple that it would totally work. I wont bother preserving it in hopes my daughter will want to wear it, how often does that actually happen? it will probably be outdated by then
@osakagrl-That is a great idea! I havent heard that one yet. You could wear it on your anniversary if you go out to a fancy place too!
Maybe I will feel differently when the time comes, but I plan to donate my dress. Something that might be worth thinking about.

The bride on younghouselove.com dyes her dress. I think it's a great idea, especially if you've altered it to the hilt like I will....
i'm going to wear it again. it's tea length and less bridey than most so I plan to wear it on halloween and a few other times just for fun!
i've seen someone make their's into a christmas tree skirt.......
Did a TTD shoot and jumped in the lake. After that I wore it in the shower to get the lake water off, it hung to dry in our cabin at our destination wedding before putting it back in its bag. It is still in said bag in a closet. I really need to do something!
Just an idea, but my grandmother cut hers up and made stockings out of it. It made quite a few stockings LOL, so each of her 4 kids has several. My grandma died when I was 8, so it's nice to see those stockings hung up at everyone's houses each year at Christmas. It's a pretty cool way to pass on your dress without expecting someone to wear it!
@grace8367-Thats an awesome idea! Can I see a photo? My husband wanted us to have a shoot of him carrying me in a lake after our ceremony. I wasnt chancing it before my reception! But thats a great idea now.
Mine's also hanging in the guest closet - still completely filthy. I haven't the slightest idea of what I'm going to do with it other than keep it. I'm not normally sentimental but for some reason I don't want to get rid of it. I really ought to clean it and I will probably just toss it in the washing machine - it is just polyester after all.
I have no idea yet. Our house is pretty small, and we have virtually no closet space, so that's out.
I know the styles will change 20 years from now, and my dau wouldn't want it so.... I'm seriously thinking of selling it. Or maybe even donating it. I just have to get used to the idea first.
I will never wear it again, but I know it's beautiful, and all the compliments are still ringing in my ears ;) so the thought of getting rid of it is kind of tough, but I probably will.
A friend of mine has suggested I hang on to my dress and have a party with all of our married friends(We're the last ones to be married) and everyone get dressed up in their gowns and tuxes. Sounds fun, especially knowing that there will definately be some fashion statements made. You could also invite any single friends too.
I'm half ashamed to say it's tied up in a trash bag in the bottom of my closet. I PLAN on cleaning it and selling it. But it's one of those things that just haven't managed to get done in the last 7 months. I don't know anyone that would wear it again.
So if anyone is interested in a Maggie dress.... :)
@honeybun-Omg that is such a cute idea. Maybe one day Ill do that for my grandkids!
Either sell it or remake it completely into a short cocktail. :) but I am not married yet. I will let you know if I get attached to it enough to set it in my closet
I have heard of people taking a piece of their dress to make a baptism outfit for their children. It may be kind of hard to plan for something like that for brides who are not looking to have kids for awhile but I think it's a really neat use for a wedding dress.
My aunt had her's made into a christening gown for her kids, which I thought was a great idea.
I plan on trying to sell mine... I just am procastinating on the cleaning of it {or rather, the paying for the cleaning of it!}
Seven months later and mine is...hanging in the garment bag on the back of my closet door. I still haven't had the time/money to get it dry cleaned and I don't really know what to do with it. I'd love to have it altered--it would make a cute cocktail dress appropriate for a vow renewal/anniversary party, but I don't know how to do that/know a seamstress I trust.

I LOVE my wedding gown! I just got married 2 months ago and it is hanging in the bag in my dining room lol. I def dont want to sell it! I heard of this place that turns them into bassinettes though. I think that would be a cute idea but Im undecided if I want to do that to my beautiful gown! I could save it for my future daughter one day, but Im sure the style would change by then! What are you ladies doing with your gown?!
