I totally threw myself into wedding planning for our year-long engagement, and now that the wedding is over…I can’t believe how much free time I have! I feel like there’s a weird stress-shaped void in my life.
I’m going into full-on nesting mode. I can’t stop thinking about buying a house and decorating it. Unfortunately that’s not in the cards quite yet, since we’re looking to move to a new city and probably won’t be settling down permanently for a bit.
So, newlywed bees–what was your next project after wedding planning? How did you spend all of that new free time? I need some inspiration!

I decided we had to have a Father’s Day carnival in our driveway. We got a groupon for a bouncy castle and it spawned a monster, LOL! I spent tons of time sewing bunting (with fabric leftover from the wedding), planning the menu, creating games, shopping for accents, making invitations, etc. Everyone loved it, and I think they all knew I was really missing wedding planning, LOL!!!
I also planned baby showers for a couple of friends, and again, completely went overboard throwing myself into them. It was great!

We’re planning for renovations and after those are done I’ll be going into full-out nesting mode. I’ve sort of already gotten into it, trying to make the house as much ours, but its tough when you can’t hang up your pictures or put out your “decor” when that wall is either not going to be there, or painted very soon. We’re not even sleeping in a bedroom… neither of us are fans of sleeping in the room that hasn’t changed since Mother-In-Law used it. Plus, I’m quite sure there’s mold in there. WTF Darling Husband…

- Wedding: October 2011 - Bed & Breakfast
We start house shopping in February (ugh), but I am definitely looking forward to the post-house shopping remodeling/decorating fun time! I just wish someone would go find the perfect house for me so that I could skip straight to decorating. Oh, and I’m also brainstorming our 1st anniversary/housewarming party. It’s gonna be awesome!

Luckily after our wedding came Halloween (we had a huge party at our house), then came Thanksgiving (I cooked for our entire family this year at our house) and now it’s Christmas (I have an amazing 3 year old step-daughter to shop for). Since all of these things involved planning…I was/have been busy planning. After Christmas, I’ll be in the same boat as you. What to do next?
As PP said, renovations or decorating; those things will definitely keep a planning bee busy! Good luck!

These are all great suggestions..I think I’ll have to hit up Pinterest for some decorating and entertaining ideas. Luckily we still have our honeymoon to look forward to (2.5 weeks away!) but after that, I’m going to need to find something else to get involved in.
I’m the type of person that needs to be busy and needs to have things to plan and look forward to, so it’s impossible for me to just sit still and relax!

I’ve gotten really into cooking (not that I wasn’t before, but now I actually have time and money to make delicious food), and I want to make a book of recipes we love. Kind of a pass-down-through-the-family thing eventually. So that’s in testing!
We’ve also picked up working out as a hobby. I didn’t drop a bunch of weight (I have about 15 lbs to lose, I think) before the wedding cause I was so stressed and busy. Now we fill a lot of our time after work training for a half marathon or doing crossfit or just bike riding to be outside and moving.
And when I can, I like to pop around to the garage sales and find gems for our apartment. So far I’ve recovered some storage cubes/footrests, repurposed a spice rack into a jewelry hanger, framed some paintings in great frames that I found for cheap, and am in the process of tiling around a mirror I found for free (that was unframed). So I guess I have a little of the nesting bug too, but on a smaller scale 🙂

I got super into cooking and meal planning too, and I took up running. It doesn’t come easily to me at all, so it’s been a fun challenge for me.

We are in full on home hunting mode right now.

Hmm that’s a great question! For us we already owned a house, and had been living together for almost 5 years so I guess our next project is the baby…? 🙂 We also travel a lot so planning for that is a “project.”

I was a Maid/Matron of Honor in a wedding the next summer, so I kind of just stopped doing my wedding and started doing my best friend’s wedding instead (and showers and bachelorette parties!). Then we bought a house, so now I’m doing the whole nesting and decorating thing!

Our next project was to pour our hearts into school. We are so excited to start applying for universities next year! Also, saving for a house!

i’m i the same boat! i have so much time i don’t know what to do with it. i’m in full nesting mode, though, and am decorating our apartment, tidying the apartment, and finding fun and creative recipes to try out. I love it 🙂

We’re definitely not ready for baby yet, so I think for now nesting will have to do 🙂 I’m sure I can occupy myself with decorating for the holidays, creative cooking, and looking for a new job after Darling Husband finds a new one (we’re both working, but we want to move within the year.) I’m sure that will keep us pretty busy!

I had my best friend’s wedding a month after mine, and then I started planning for a Christmas dinner party. It went really well! It was sooo much work, though, that I think I might need a slightly less time-consuming hobby.
