We had a tasting at scrumptions- and it was great. Very professional, their portfolio is impressive, and the samples tasted great. Only thing I didn’t like was the price- $1000 for a plaiN round white cake- 4 tiers. Came to about 6.50/slice
So next I tried Fatulli’s. I love their sandwiches etc and have heard great things about their cakes. And, I’d love to keep my business local. Their price was much more reasonable, at about $500 for about the same cake I wanted from scrumptions. But…. It just didn’t taste that great. Not bad, but it didn’t knock my socks off.
Am I really going to have to spend $1000 to get a decent cake?!

- Wedding: October 2010 - The Atlantic Beach Club
@alexroet: I had the same problem when I planned my wedding in 2010. I wanted to go local, but it was just too expensive. I tried Scrumptions, Fatullis (agree on tatse, although everything else there is amazing), Diane’s Sweet Tooth,Cappucinos and at least one other. I ended up going with a baker in MA, Konditor Mesier, located in Braintree, which is the South Shore. Even with the delivery, it was much cheaper and it tasted delicious. They give an awesome tatsing, so even though it’s out of the way, it could be worth the trip. Good luck!

@starfish: ooh, thanks. I’ll check them out.
Just set up an appt with confectionary designs, and then she said their average 4-tier cake is $1200. That’s going the WRONG WAY, cost-wise! haha.
My sister’s cake was from Cappuccino’s – unfortunately they’re closing/closed. (won’t be around in June, either way)

What about Mad Hatter–downtown Newport across from City Hall–haven’t had their cakes, but their cupcakes are fabulous
I am using Scrumptions because we wanted spice cake–and it was soooo good–decided no save the dates so I could get the cake I wanted

I will be looking for a cake vendor myself very soon. We’ve always loved salted caramel cupcakes from It’s My Party in Newport. A year ago, I was quoted about 3.50/4 a slice from them. That may have changed since they’ll bought out the chocolate shop next door and upgraded a bit.
I also had someone recommend Patticakes in Wakefield. They told me the cupcakes are great and their wedding planner friends loves their cakes. So I may give them a try as well.
I’m with you, though…$1000 for a cake?! I’ll turn into a Betty Crocker wedding week before I spend that! lol
