We thought about having our wedding in the redwoods and there were a few places in N Cali that came across our radar. What are some of the places you’re looking at?

We are doing ours over a weekend at a school camp!! Can’t wait 🙂

Firstly, I’d figure I’d ask, have you tested the waters and found that people would be willing to spend the whole week?

I don’t mean to be rude, but if a good friend/family member of mine was having a week long wedding, I would probably loathe to give up my holidays for it.  There’s also the obvious that lots of people wouldn’t be able to take the time off.  Are you thinking of doing it during the school holidays?  Otherwise school could also be an issue.

Otherwise, I live in Aus, but I did find some more luxurious school camps which had only a couple of beds per room, and a few private rooms for the teachers.  They were out of my budget but perhaps could be in yours?  They were around $9000 AUD to hire for the weekend, not sure about a week.  Also look up “family reunion” accomodation, I found some great places looking that up, though again out of my budget sadly 🙁

JEA2015:  there are quite a few retreat centers in northern CA- however I doubt there is much that would fit that many people without a dorm style type boarding room… We considered doing something similar until we discovered that most places like what you mention want the bride & groom to pre-pay for all their guests lodging on top of the wedding ceremony & reception rental fees. So that’s something to think about- whether they will hold space for your guests or if you have to prepay for it all & collect from them later…..

My daughter always wanted a destination wedding, on a tropical island. I talked her out of it, because there are some guests that I would want to avoid the entire 5 hours of a regular reception (think in-laws), so there’s no way I’d want to spend 5 days at the same resort.
