I think I will be using this line on my RSVPs:

We have reserved two seats in your name

___ will attend

___ will not attend

what do you think?

Hm, I think it’s fine to say ___ of 2 but I think it’s a little awkward to reiterate it by saying “We kindly request a maximum of 2 guests per invitation.” I think the first part should get the point across.

I agree with Ms Jellyfish.  I think they will see that you’re only inviting the two if you put those names on the envelope and the __ of 2 on the RSVP card.  That’s what we’re doing to make sure we don’t have surprise guests.

Your point will get across when you address the invitations on the envelope.  For example:

Mr & Mrs. John Smith

123 Main St

Cleveland, OH

That is a total of 2 people.

I think bridegrl’s phrasing is the best. Are you doing inner envelopes? If so, you would write the names of who is invited on that, and that would head off people adding extras.

So the inner envelope would say “Dan and Katherine” which means that only Dan and Katherine are invited. If they RSVP Dan, Katherine and their daughter Chloe, then you would call and say that unfortunately you cannot accomodate Chloe.

I think if you put only the invitees names on the envelope and then using Bridegirls “We have reserved 2 seats in your honor” that should get the point across. I’m not sure you need to reiterate it again at the bottom.

I think “We have reserved _____ seats in your honor” is best.

The “____ of 2 will not attend” bit is very confusing to me. Best to be straightforward.

Here’s how we did it it:

We have reserved two seats in your honor (I actually typed in the number per guest)

Name & Name (again, I’m writing in each individuals’ name

____ of two will attend

It’s possible that if you see “2 guests maximum” people might think that means themselves, as they were the ones invited, plus 2 of their guests.

I think ## seats is much clearer.
