whatsherface04:  I have been on nights for just over 2 years now…and yeah it sucks alot of times…. i do really miss the similiar schedule to FI….ALOT…. and its been kind of hard to plan since alot of vendors dont really seem to understand that i get to work at 5:30pm 3-4 nights a week, and get home at 7:40-8am most days….so its been tough getting them to understand that I just cant meet up an hour after i get home, and that I cant just re-work my work schedule to meet with them in the evening when i work….my BIGGEST pet peeve with most people right now is when they KNOW I worked the night before I REALLY wish people would stop calling/texting before noon….and then being mad when i dont want to correspond….

I am a RN have been for just over 2 years and its REALLY hard to get dayshift acute care positions in my area as a new grad…I am hoping to switch over here soon to days….but for now….luckily we live in a beautiful house so that has made it easier not having neighbors, above/below/to the side…who frankly dont care that I would have to sleep during the day….most of my friends/family are getting better about the night shift thing….

oh heres a thought Holidays make me irrationally grumpy, because usually i get stuck working the night before we celebrate, and everyone is busting my chops because “everyone else is going to be able to be there at 10-11am”….even though 90% of the people in our families dont work near holidays or have from home jobs that they can flexibly schedule…..

anywho full moons are terrible as well….ugh….

but yup I am a night shifter, and while it has its perks and downfalls….i do very much enjoy my current job and co-workers….I do wish vendors would be alot more flexible and understanding that I just cant flip over to a “normal” routine….it doesnt work like that…..

but the pay differential is prety sweet!!

glad to hear from a fellow nighter…..

whatsherface04:  It does get kinda difficult….but i have a few really good friends and a terrifically understanding FI who have kinda helped me through alot of the transition with nightshift and in continuing to deal with it….I have become very distant from a few “friends” just from their lack of understanding and basically saying I was a bad friend after working all night (when this occurred I was working as a charge nurse in a small facility so no possible way i could get last minute coverage)….when 1 night I couldnt make it 4 hours away to a bachelorette party, and then I refused to go set up for a Bridal Shower that was at 10am at 8 am and make cookies for it….when i had 3 days prior notice and I had to work all 3 nights before and the night of….and it was around a full moon so everynight was exceptionally rough…..

but it sounds odd but i have weeded some not so good “friends” out…..but i figure….if they cant be my friend and understanding just because I work night shift and cant always be there for everything then good riddance….esp when i am planning a wedding and sometimes when i have a day off I just dont want to do a gosh darn thing!!!

The one perk i have found is since i do flip my schedule back and forth is i have gotten a heck of alot of planning done at 3am when i am converting back to nights before a shift… and alot of online shopping…lol….but it does have its perks…

glad to know im not alone on here….sometimes when i browse the bee at 2am i wonder who else is up…

Night shifter for over 3 years here. I work irregular shifts so some weeks I have 6 days in a row, and other weeks I have 3 days on, 3 days off.

The only good thing about where I work is my SO works there too, and that is where we met. We work the same days, but he does days and nights where I just work nights, so six months of a year we work the same shifts, six months he works days so we see each other on days off, and at the start of my night shift.

Its always nice to know I am not alone, even if I am out of step with the “regular” world.

I’m usually reading at night too…although my wedding is over and I’m waiting to do a recap.

I have worked straight nights for years now…6 nights a week. It was my only choice when I got hired because the other two shifts switch back and forth from days to afternoons and then I wouldn’t see my kids or DH (then bf/FI) for 50% of the year!!!

The hardest part is with DH’s job right now. He is gone for 12+ hours per day so our time together is pretty limited…especially alone time…Saturday night every other week when kids are at their dad’s!

Well…off to bed I go…good night!

Just came off 13 nights straight yesterday morning and I’m back in tonight. I’m exhausted but the money is great. Thank God we have Easter next weekend which is a holiday weekend for us and I actually get 4 nights off!! We’ve been 6 nights a week since Christmas!
