Found out today that in addition to a whole host of environmental allergies, I’m also allergic to tomatoes, and likely to the whole nightshade family of fruit/veg (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, eggplant). Does anyone have recommendations for decent blogs or cookbooks/recipes that are nightshade-free? TIA!

@inspiredcreations: this is actually a pretty easy allergy! It may not feel like it now but you still have a ton of foods left. All meat, whole grains, and all vegetables besides peppers (potatoes are a starch IMO not really a vegetable). You can have other dips besides salsa like guac or cheese dip/bean dip.

@BlondeMissMolly: It’s slightly more restrictive since I eat a low-fat vegan diet already. Tomatoes/peppers were my go-to for quick flavor and sauce bases, and potatoes were my starch of choice. I’m trying not to get bogged down in what I can’t have, because you’re right, there’s still plenty left.

@inspiredcreations: Ah yeah that will make it more difficult. Obviously I didn’t know that or else my response would have been different haha! I guess I’m not much help then because I personally don’t find that to be a good diet and I have very little experience with it myself. But, the good news is you still have tons of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts, seeds, etc. I have a lot of diet restrictions and my biggest tip regardless of what you eat is to use plenty of herbs and spices in your cooking. IMO that makes all the difference.

I am also recently diagnosed as allergic to tomatoes and I have no great advice about it — beyond that it makes you hyper aware of what’s in your food. Tomato paste is in so many things — I had no idea.
