Nikkimcq:  What will be behind your head table? There are lots of ways you can decorate without having a formal backdrop.

Our backs will be to the floor to ceiling windows looking out over the city, so we’re not doing anything in terms of a back drop/decorations.

Nikkimcq:  Sorry, call me dense but I’m not understanding what you are trying to say.

Are you saying that the partitian will be behind the head table? What are your two focal points?

Nikkimcq:  What is a picture wall? And how does it become a focal point?

Your head table will be the focal point because the bride and groom will be sitting there. If you are not doing  a backdrop, you could hang something over the head table. Your choice will depend on the feel, theme, color palette etc of your wedding.

You could place a few of those huge perfectly round helium balloons. Check out the cost of helium that would be required as this may be too costly.

you could suspend large branches horizontally

What unique reception decor! White umbrellas are strung up with white twinkle lights, giving this outdoor wedding reception a dreamy feel.

traditional paper lanterns

Feel like you've seen all applications of paper lanterns at an event? How about this more structured and less whimsical installation above a wedding head table or over a dance floor. Lime, orange, and pink make a daring statement.

No one is going to care if you have a back drop or not behind you.

We didn’t do a backdrop – I didn’t even know that was a thing. The wall was behind us, and I guess that was just fine. It was pretty obvious that it was a head table.

I’m not having one, my head table will be in front of windows over looking a lake.
