My Dilema Bees: My dream wedding dress is a fit & flare/mermaid/trumpet, strapless, sweetheart neckline, RED dress…. alas unless I win the Lottery I cannot afford one, Vera Wang is too expensive, Kitty Chens Autum dress is bright red, and after that everything is either a Quinceanera dress or prom dress 🙁 I’ve been on the hunt for a dress for over a year, online, magazines, countless emails to bridal stores big & small in the state of California, classfields, preowned wedding dress.com etc., & have finally given up, I will have no other choice but to go with an ivory/white dress. I always read that “red” was so popular for wedding dresses, etc., the web, magazines etc give it to much hype. Truth is unless you have the $$$ you can’t get one. I’ve been tempted to buy a knockoff from the web but losing out on $ is not an option or a risk I’m willing to take. I don’t know any dress designers or shops that can make one for me. When I ask bridal shops I’ve visited I always get the “Are you crazy” look.
I have chosen a Maggie Sottero named Marianne dress (if only I could dye it red lol) that after trying on over 15 dresses (this one was the 3rd one) I’ve decided to go with that one. It’s still pricey $1700 not including alterations & I’m scheduled to go in 3 wks to “Say Yes to the dress” & make a payment. I’m hesitant to say the least, because once I give the $ there’s no turning back. I mean I like the dress better than all the other dresses but I don’t LOVE LOVE it like I should or know I would if the dress was red? Is that terrible of me?
& I know everyone says buy a cheap dress for the church ceremony & another red dress for the reception, but even then I don’t want to wear a quinceanera or prom/pageant red dress to my wedding reception.
Bees do you have any ideas? Input or other resources I’ve may have overlooked?

What about bridesmaids dresses? I just googled it and there are ton like you described. Also, second Julies1949- they may not be the same price, but a a prom dress won’t make you not married. And dresses don’t have to cost a ton to be special- mine was $250. I’d keep an open mind. As an extra bonus, bridesmaids dresses and special occasion dresses often have better return polocies so maybe you could try soe optiond from on-line, since that’ll be your best bet.

Badnesa49r: This Bee recently posted about dyeing her wedding gown.
If you are wearing a red dress, no one but you is going to know if it is a prom dress or not.

My friend was looking for a red dress, so I suggested prom dress. no one is going to know, and they are much more affordable. http://www.newyorkdress.com/mobile/Tiffany/16040.html
This look wedding to me and it has red. Just an example though.

You should reconsider ordering a dress replica online. It would be way cheaper that the $1700 white dress you’re going to order (which you don’t seem excited about). Give Cara Bridal a try, she’s gotten pretty good reviews from other bees.

Badnesa49r: I know you said you were hesitant to order a replica as you have only once shot but Jasmine Bridal does a very good vera wang replica. They have the design pat down and some even say it looks better than the original. Here is a link to a bee who got the vera wang gemma in red. Ticks all your boxes if I may say and reduces cost too!!
