Totally worth a shot. At least go look at it and maybe try it on. For $200 bucks, it couldn't hurt.
Normally I saw you should stick with the dress you bought, but in this case, I think it's an option worth exploring.
The girl with the dress just emailed me back, I'm going to look at it tomorrow after work! (in a public place of course :) Can't be too careful with craigslist) Yay!!
So glad you decided to go check it out. Keep us posted!
UPDATE: So the dress was PERFECT! I about died, but I had serious doubts about buying it off of her seeing as I have a perfectly good dress, that I love and that my mom paid for... Well seeing my aprehension she shows me the PERFECT Cathedral veil she wore with it which she says she'll throw in and she will also give it to me for 175 if I buy it now...problem? I don't have anything smaller than a 50.00 on me, her response? You can have it for 150.00. SOLD!!!
Now I don't know how to bring it up to my mom that I have two dresses and don't know which want I want to wear :/
Are you going to share pictures? That sounds pretty cool. I'm sure she'll understand. You can still wear both if you really want to.
I don't have pics of me actually in the dress, but here are the two dresses...
I purchased the first from the store, I bought the casablanca from her...and the veil is a sheer simple veil identical to this one...
Can you wear one to the ceramony and one to the reception. Then your mom will be happy that you wore hers for the wedding.
Could you wear one dress for the ceremony and the other for the reception? I love them both!
Oh, I've tried on that casablanca! It's pretty....very sparkly.
My dad is super weird about really random things with the wedding and if I wore 2 dresses I guarantee he would pitch the biggest fit known to man. And while I'm fine when other brides do the 2 dress thing, its not really my preference...
Wear your dream dress! I know it's unfortunate that you've already bought a dress, but now you have the one you've really wanted. Make yourself happy!
Now that I've told you how I feel about it, I must say that from looking at the pictures alone, I do prefer the second one.
You can always sell the first dress - $150 with veil is a complete bargain, even if you lose a little on the sale it's not the end of the world. Or talk to the first bridal shop and ask if they would let you put the money from your deposit towards bridesmaids dresses or accessories if you cancel the order - it worth a shot, don't ask don't get...
I know I won't be able to get any part of the deposit back or use it for BM dresses. I had to sign a pretty strict contract thingy. I decided I'm going to wait until that dress comes in before I make any decisions. I really did LOVE my Essence dress when I tried it on and it was pretty easy for me to fall out of love with the dress I thought was too expensive. (Which I just found out through all this, the dress store had the Casablanca marked up by like $700.00!!! Geez!) But I never tried to find that dress cheaper. So I'm going to wait until I have both and see how the dress my mom bought me feels and how I like it. Hopefully having it on again will give me some isight. I may even have to consult the bee again about it, but just with pics of me in it instead of the model!
I know this is an older post but I just saw it and had to offer this little bit. The Casablanca is a BEAUTIFUL dress but I have seen numerous brides wear it (I've personally been to 2 weddings where that was the dress). If you want to be a little more unique go with your first dress, its really lovely too. Also I think your plan to wait is a really good choice.
What would you do with your first dress if you go with the dress from Craig's List? Just curious. I know my mother would be steaming if I decided I didn't want the dress that is being made for me right now. Eek!
When is your dress supposed to come in?
@Gemstone - Totally my fear! I'm not sure if she'd be understanding or super pissed. A friend of mine is costume designer and I mentioned to her my issue. She said if I bring the dress down to Charleston with me this month she would show me how she could shorten it for me and then maybe I could wear it for the rehearsal dinner. I'm going to meet up with her but I'm afraid it'll be way to much for the RD, we will see. I actually hope it could work out, then I wouldn't have to worry about choosing, I'd still get to wear both!
I also bought a second dress and was sooo nervous to tell my parents that I was going to sell the very expensive dress they had bought for me.
But when I did tell my mom she just asked which dress I preferred and said all that mattered was that I had a dress that made me happy. She was totally supportive and was happy to see me so excited about a dress I LOVE. I quickly sold the first dress and got such a good deal on the new dress that we got money back in the end (which made my dad very happy).
Wear the dress you love. Your family will be happy when they see you so happy.
I know this is an older post but I was wondering if anyone knew who the designer is for the dress in the 3rd picture? I keep thinking about it and really need to find out so I can try it on. it's just what i have been looking for. I will reattach the photo below.
I did the same thing. Bought a much cheaper second dress after my mom bought me an expensive first dress that I fell out of love with. I thought she would be upset but she told me to do what makes me happy. She said it's just a dress, she's rather see me in happy in the second one. Now I just need to sell the first one! good luck!
I really love that second dress. It is absolutely gorgeous! And it sounds like it's your dream dress....
@soonerbride: Thanks but I actually decided on the first one!
I forgot I had even posted this, lol! A little update....
Once my other dress came in I tried on both side by side. I much prefer the first one on me. The picture does not really do it justice and (I know it sounds corny) I really *sparkle* in the essence of australia dress. I still very much love the second dress but it was just not "my" dress.
@SerenaSF: Did you ever figure out were this dress came from? I believe it is Monique Lhuillier Jillian.
Love your update! Glad you still loved the Original dress!
@june42011: ugh, of course it's a monique... of course the dresses that always catch my eye are waaaaaaaay out of prince range! so depressing. thanks for telling me though, it had been driving me crazy! happy to hear your dress issues worked out for the best!

First of all this is not a dress regret post, I LOVE my dress! But there was one dress I tried on that I loved more, but after I saw the price tag I decided I didn't really "love it". Browsing through craigslist I see the pricey dress, in my size, altered to someone my height, with sewn in cups in my bra size, and guess what its like 5 min away...the other part?? She's asking 200.00 for the dress!!! Now the dress I purchased hasn't come in yet, and I know I'll need it altered for about 200.00 so I have to ask, do ya'll think I should look into purchasing the craigslist dress? The seller posted actual pictures and it looks legit, she also had it professionally cleaned and only wore it for the ceremony. What do ya think???
