I think it sounds like a beautiful idea! I'm glad to see you respect your dads beliefs. Your wedding will be amazing, and what could be more sweet than a mother and her son, who has stood by her through it all!
Love this idea- my father wasnt close to me growing up.. i have a son & daugther from a previous marriage and FI & I plan to have a "family dance" him with her, son with me..prolly to wonderful world as we both love that song! good luck in planning
Will your FI be doing a mother/son dance with his mother also? You could combine the two and both have a mother/son dance together, unless having different songs is important to you.
A Mother/Son dance would be absolutely lovely. As a single mom, I can totally relate to that special closeness we have with our children.
Have you heard the song "Better" by Toby Lightman? It's the most amazing Mother/Son song I've ever heard, I love it. Here are the lyrics:
So when he comes to you in the middle of the night
Cause he's scared to be alone in the dark
You'll tell him everything's gonna be alright
Cause I will be your light
I will be your night
I will be that star in the sky who watches over you
You'll tell him everything you know
You'll tell him "oh the places you'll go"
So you can be a good man and
make this world better.
You'll give him all the love you have
Even when he makes you so mad
Keep in mind, that he made your life better.
So when he comes to you and he's so confused
Because he wants to give his heart to another
You'll tell him everything's gonna be just fine
Cause I will be your light
And when the years are going by too fast
and he's growing up to be big and strong
Know his love for you will last
Even when he doesn't say it to your face
Even when you have to put him in his place
Know that he's a love that nothing in this
world can ever replace
Aww guys I am in tears just thinking about it... I hope I am not a hot mess the day of my wedding as I am just going thru a selection of songs for my little man and me. We are really silly with each other all the time. And to show our personality and relationship. We can end the dance to can’t touch this by MC Hammer. I mean I embarrass him all the time by doing that dance either way. But it makes him smile...And say why I don’t have a normal mother...
He loves it... Hammer time
I'm sort of in the same position my son is 3 my FH has been there since he was around 6 months old. The song "better" made me cry. I'm starting to think of my sons wedding day even though he's only 3. I may use that to do a dance with me to. I'm not doing a father daughter dance.
I think thats a very cute idea! My suggestions... (If you like 'older' music) "Sweet Child of mine" by Carole King. Or Nitty Gritty Dirt Bands "Dance Little Jean"
I will also be doing a dance with my son. He will be 13 at the time of the wedding and my dad passed away 5 years ago so it will be very special. We are dancing to "In My Life" by the Beatles :)

Hello Ladies
Ok after my dilemma of having a second wedding over..
Here I am in full planning mode. Just one problem now... My dad and mom have converted to seven day Adventist. And he (dad) will not be able to dance with me. I understand and respect that. However I do have a son from my first marriage and I was thinking he could dance with me instead of my dad. I mean for the longest it was just me and him. Until I met my FH it was just my son and me. We are really close and I think it would be a nice way to let him know how much he means to me that day too. Now to pick a song for my son and I??
