I think a donation to charity in their name to an organization that they care about would be a lovely gesture.
I think that's a great idea. I would write a sincere note in a card explaining why you are making the donation and your hopes and wishes for their marriage. I can't imagine anyone would be upset about that.

When a couple asks for "No gifts" is it inappropriate to make a donation to a charity in their honor? I really want to acknowledge their marriage with something, I just don't want to go against their wishes as it is a low-key wedding.
