I’m brand new here, been engaged since March, and I have no idea where to start with anything. I have my dress picked out, but not paid for yet. I relocated from Ohio to New York. Are there any WNY brides around here? I have absolutely NO friends in New York.. Don’t know anybody! I’d love to make some bride friends 🙂

Hearos: I do not live in your area but I might be able to give you a few suggestions.
FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT- FIGURE OUT YOUR BUDGET,….. WITHOUT THIS CHAOS WILL BE IN YOUR FUTURE…… AFTER THIS IS FIGURED OUT THEN I WOULD SUGGEST THE FOLLOWING
1. Visit a wedding website like the knot and print out one of these wedding checklists. Theese checklists are also available on the internet. They are a good guide and can help you figure out what to do and when to do it (invites, venues, dresses, etc).
2. Figure out what type of wedding you want- indoors? outdoors? big? small? fancy? casual?
3. once you figure out what type of wedding you want start searching venues in your area. These places tend to book fast so I would first select the venue and date. Without the venue, nothing really can happen.
4. after the venue, would come photographer, videographer and florist…….. use the web or pinterest to help with ideas if you are stuck
5. STD’s…. generally a good idea as it helps guest plan
6. dress and bridal party

I’m not in Western New York. But decide on what your likely budget is, the people you want there, and your style. I started with the amount I was comfortable spending, then made a list of what was needed, and wanted, listed in order of priorities -maybe pick your top 3 priorities. Then as I spent money, I subtracted that from my total amount. If it was important to spend more in one area, I spent less in another area to keep within my budget. Ways to save-buy gently used items, make similar substitutions within your budget, borrow items, diy, if you are handy/crafty-if it costs less.

springbride23: I’m in Dunkirk/Fredonia area. I just moved here 3 weeks ago from Ohio. I need a bride friend!!!
I guess maybe at be im not completely clueless.. Our budget is about $20k, plus whatever parents want to pitch in for. I have my dress picked out, I have the photographer picked out, havent picked a venue yet, I’m super crafty and have no problem DIY-ing stuff. All of my family will be coming from Ohio but his family is here. We also have our colors picked and a general idea of the feel we want for the reception. Our photo booth and DJ are both free (since both people are friends of mine and are offering their services as a wedding gift) we planned a March 2016 wedding but he wants to move it up. (He wants babies!)
i guess i feel feel like we haven’t done anything because we haven’t put money down on anything yet.

Hearos: One you start putting money down you will be amazed at how quickly it will disappear. 🙂 Just do a lot of research on each vendor and have a solid vision before you book anything and pay deposits. Starting with colors and a general idea of vibe is going to be helpful. Casual? Formal? Artsy? Outdoor? Ballroom? Art gallery? Once you have an idea it will narrow down your venue choices and also your dress choices – two huge decisions. 🙂

My dress is SO picked out. Waiting for it to go on sale July 1st. What about ordering a dress online? The bridal store wants $1259 for the dress (found it online for $346). But I’m super leery about it. Bridal store wants $225 for my belt, and $159 for my veil. Found the exact same veil on eBay for $18. Found similar belts for $45. I’m all about saving some money. What do you guys think?
