I think it's nice to tie it together so it all comes out as a little packet. But watch out about adding cost to your postage as some ribbons will add bulk to your envelope and then they will have to be hand-sorted.
I'd take one with a tie and one without to the postoffice and see if it's going to cost more before going thru the trouble of tying all of them.
I think you'd be fine with or without, but I did bellybands with plain cardstock I had on hand and it worked out fine. It didn't even add cost to the postage (it was all 1 regular stamp for a 5x7 card, and two smaller inserts and the band).
I used a paper cutter at Office Max to cut one inch bands and then I used double stick tape to hold it together in the back of the stack.
i used a belly band to hold everything together. this is a really really crappy pic, but you get the idea. i only had a map (with hotel info on the back), my invite, and the rsvp card and envelope. everyone loved them!

I'm not doing inner envelopes (our wedding isn't that formal). So I have the invite, the RSVP postcard, and a little business card sized paper with our wedding website on it. Should I just leave everything loose inside the envelope, or tie it up with some ribbon or even a belly band?
