I want to get everyone’s opinion. I usualy do not wear makeup, except for special occasions, and I think I look fine. Ok, so I tend to cry a lot during emotional situations and do not want large amount of foundation, etc, washing off onto my dress. Do you think it would be ok to not wear makeup for my ceremony? I probably would be fine at my reception. Am I crazy for even thinking of not wearing makeup for my ceremony?

I would, at the very, very least, wear some mascara, a bit of eyeshadow, and a gloss on your lips. It’s very easy to look washed out in photographs if you don’t add a little something to bring out your features.

Just use waterproof products. I don’t know any foundation that would run down your face or get on your dress as long as you’re not touching your face and then your dress.
I don’t think it’s an aboslute necessity, but if anything is a special occasion your wedding day is. And with so many pictures and so many eyes on you it seems worth it for that day.

I remember reading a photographer’s tip that if you don’t ever wear makeup, you should at least wear foundation, a bit of blush and mascara (however, they don’t suggest that for guys, so I don’t get the big deal! :P).
If you have great skin, but are worried about crying, I would at least wear eyelashes (fake or extensions if you don’t mind the price) and lip gloss/lipstick.
I also hope you don’t find this offensive, but I’ve only met two women in my life who I thought looked great in photos with no makeup, and they were gorgeous in person. I voted for at least “light” makeup. Then again, it’s your wedding, and if you think you’ll look fine w/o, do it. 😉

Yeah, I would wear at least a little bit of makeup. I agree, you don’t want to look washed out in photographs.

Perhaps stop at somewhere like a Sephora or Nordstrom on the day and have a clerk at a good makeup shop do you up very lightly with good product. They should know what to use to really help with that, since I imagine they get a lot of wedding day traffic!

If you want to try a light make up look, maybe go with waterproof mascara, a little white or beige shimmering eye shadow right at the inner corners of the eyes (it looks really good in photographs and gives a bright eyed look), some lip stick or lip gloss, maybe even some Chap Stick (it gives a little shine but not a lot), blush for a little color and if you don’t really need foundation, maybe a translucent matte powder.

Great suggestions everyone. Thank you very much. I think I will go with light makeup. I might even check out other foundations than I currently use. When I do wear makeup I use chanel foundation. (it comes off when I cry) I used to use Yves Saint Laurent, and before that Dior, which all came off also. I cry a lot when I cry.

Do you wear primer under your foundation? That should help it stay in place. I use Makeup Forever HD primer and it does wonders.

Definately wear a little bit. Like mentioned above waterproof mascara and foundation primer will help teary situations!

Definitely a little bit. You can just wear a light translucent powder, and abit of waterproof mascara

If you want to wear a little makeup but are just worried about it running if you cry, then (as PP have said) don’t worry — you can def find some great waterproof stuff.
If you don’t want to wear makeup because you just don’t want to wear makeup, then don’t — pictures be damned! You have to feel comfortable. I wore almost not makeup at my wedding, against the advice of all my friends, but I don’t regret it.

So I looked around for a while and found this awsome foundation by Estee Lauder that should stay on my face. The Estee Lauder lady put it on me, and I wore it all day. I loved it, and it seemed like it wouldn’t come off when I cry. It actually feels so nice and light on my face. I also am going to use dior waterproof mascara, I usually use the non waterproof one because it seems to go on nicer.
Thank you all so much.
