At least until the planning itself makes me nuts, haha! (for those who didn’t see my craziness/whining over the weekend: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/warning-whining-ahead)
He proposed! It was utterly simple and utterly perfect–not much more than a moment alone and the necessary words, and he showed he knows me almost better than I know myself.
There were tears and laughter, and I’m experiencing a combination of peace and joy I don’t think I’ve ever felt. All the pent-up emotion is released, and the tension from not being able to let myself just fall into the emotional certainty of what I knew intellectually is gone. Just floating on a happy cushion…
Now to the ring p0rn (yes, those hands look every bit of the almost-39 years they are).
(For those who care, it’s a hearts-and-arrows/round Asha 1ct-equivalent, “Ira” setting, low-set, 2mm band, size 6.5–a tiny bit big. We looked at a number of rings as we discussed the criteria we wanted/liked, but I wasn’t hyped up on any one ring in particular; I thought they all were beautiful. But in the months of waiting, I found that one that did tug at me a bit more than anything else we had looked at. And that’s the one he picked! I’m so happy.)
Yes, I get a goofy look on my face everytime I happen to see it…

Thanks so much, everyone! I wish I could parcel out some of this happiness and peace for people who need it!
@Coffee cup: That’s what I like about the Ashas–they have beautiful diamond-style cuts. The Moissanites are pretty, but I love the classic look and sparkle/fire of the Ashas–at the restaurant tonight it just gleamed and we both couldn’t stop looking at it. The Fiance (I love typing that–first time!) and I decided that we wanted to keep cost down while still getting something that clearly said “engagement ring” and looked pretty and classy while not being ostentatious. He succeded wonderfully in that goal!
@Juliepants: I don’t think it will go away (at least not for a VERY long time). I’ve been on a many years’ journey back the from “the edge” and I am just in joyous awe of where I’ve been and where I am today with this honest, healthy and wonderful relationship we’ve managed to create together. We both feel incredibly lucky/blessed to have found each other. We spent much of our lives alone as far as romance, so we know what a treasure it is to have someone you can love and trust who backs you up in this crazy world.

@39bride: Congrats! Your ring is beautiful! We just got engaged and my mouth is still on the floor from the real diamond prices! I’ve been reading about ashas and I’m not convinced quite yet…but the more beautiful asha rings I see (like yours) the closer I get to being convinced to getting one. We’ll see. Congrats again!

@GeeBee: Thanks! Keep reading about Ashas–good and bad–and I’m sure you’ll figure out what you’re comfortable with. I think I he got it from ashadiamonds.com–they have a ton of beautiful settings of all types.
Though they are more durable than standard CZ, the only bad thing I’ve heard about them is that they aren’t as durable as diamonds and that in some cases the special diamond-like coating can supposedly be worn off after many years. However, that didn’t faze us because:
1. I’m not a generally a jewelry-wearer and my Fiance wants me to have a rose gold wedding band, so I probably will only wear this ring regularly during our 4-month engagement (just as a RH ring on special occasions, after that).
2. If it turns out that 5 years down the road it doesn’t look quite as nice anymore, we’ll hopefully be in a position to put in a new stone of diamond/gem, etc (if we’d gone real diamond today I’d probably have ended up with essentially a diamond chip of poor quality and I wouldn’t have liked it as far as appearance and balance on my finger.
So, it works for us. 🙂

@39bride: Thanks for the asha tips 39bride! They helped me out a lot. Hopefully I’ll decide this week. Congrats again!

Loved this thread….I wish men knew that stress and uncertainty of waiting all goes away once they ask. 🙂
