Bees, is this normal?
We invited 204 people, 141 are coming. The wedding is just less than 2 weeks away and our registry is hardly touched! 7 gifts have been purchased! I figured lots of people would give us money----but only a few gift buyers?? Or do most people wait until 2 weeks prior to buy off the registry?
Dude, no one has bought us anything either and we only have 2 weeks left! :(
@JoJo Bananas: Hey date twin!!!! I'm glad to hear you're in the same boat! I wanted some of those gifts... darn!
Maybe they looked at your registry to see what you wanted and were able to get a better deal somewhere else
I know! Me too! I hope people start shoppin'!! Especially since everything on our Macy's registry is on sale (including our china)! Also, I haven't had any sort of shower yet. My shower will be the Thursday before the wedding.
I think a lot of people will shop the week of or the day before. Dont worry!
Every (middle-aged) person that I know that has attended a wedding in the past couple of years ALWAYS buys the gift the day of the wedding. I don't get it.
That sounds in the ballpark of what we had. We had some give cash, a lot gave giftcards, and a large chunk didn't get us anything (including some who RSVP'd yes and didn't show- the most annoying!)
1) I feel like MOST people give money for weddings. I always do gifts for shower and money for wedding.
2) when i buy a gift off of a registry I do it within a week of the event (usually shower). Pretty much everyone in my fam shops the weekend-of.
I'm a procrastinator myself when it comes to gift buying, sometimes the day of! For a wedding, probably no later than the day before.
CorgiTales, I hope you are right. I'm going to be checking our registries next Sunday night with high hopes.
All my shower gifts came from my registry, and most of them didn't show up as purchased until the day of - meaning people picked them up the day before/day of. Don't be surprised if folks do the same for your wedding. Could get some off registry gifts too.
If I hadn't had a shower, I wouldn't have gotten anything from the registries. The overwhelming majority of people bought us gifts off the registry or gave us cash for the wedding. The off-registry gifts were cool, like a hammock and a hand-blown glass vase that matched the colors of our dining room.
Hopefully you get lots of dollars!
We are going to a wedding next Sunday and I just bought the couple a gift last night. I felt AWFUL, their registry is mostly untouched and a lot of the things they registered for are no longer in stock!! Unfortunately, we are super tight on money, otherwise I would have bought them a couple more things.
I noticed several things when it came to my shower/wedding:
1. People don't buy gifts until the last minute, so you don't start seeing a huge dent until then.
2. Somehow people still don't get how registries work and don't tell the store they are buying off the registry, so the store doesn't take the items off your list.
3. For weddings, people don't feel like dragging gifts around...they usually just prefer envelopes filled with gift cards or cash.
4. People don't like to buy off of registires and they just buy whatever they feel like. And then there are the extra kind people who don't even include gift receipts for you to easily return the items you don't need...like a $15 crockpot someone bought me, but I couldn't figure out what store it came from after visiting 10 different places!
Did you have a shower? If they go untouched, just think gift cards! That way you are able to focus more on the things you def need. But it is sad looking and noticing the items aren't going touched. Best of luck.
They say that the two weeks before and after the wedding are the busiest.
Also, some of your guests might have purchased things in-store and had difficulties marking them off the registry.
I'm also an 8/21 bride. I wouldn't be worried...money is a million times better than gifts! I registered for a few and actually was a bit surprised (and disappointed) to see that at $400 per couple, I was receiving registry gifts for $50. Made me feel a little bad that people don't think we're worth a little more than that.. but it has also helped me work out some last minute budgeting stuff. I think people not touching the registry is actually a good sign. I think the registry is mainly for aquantances who want to get you something, but most guests do give money...
Most of our guests gave us cash. We had about 6 actual gifts purchased off our registry, and those guests bought them a few days before the wedding. (I was a registry stalker obvi).
I def think that you'll see more in the last week. I'm going to a shower next Saturday and probably won't buy anything till Thursday or Friday.
I'm getting married in less than 3 weeks and I still just have 1 item on my entire registry that was bought. I'm also trying not to worry about it.
I think it's a combination of last minute, people not informing the sales staff to update the registry, and cash gifts. At least- I hope!
People buy like, 2 days before. Or give cash. Don't freak out, I doubt they'll show up empty handed. I've been known to buy gifts the morning of. In fact, I'm going to a wedding in <3 weeks and haven't even THOUGHT about the gift. Probably won't for 2 more weeks
Dont worry! We have only gotten a few gifts recently - I think maybe 3 or 4 gifts and one check? I was worried about this too!! My mom said people will bring gifts to the wedding so Im assuming she is talking about her family, FMIL said that people will give stuff at the wedding and after the wedding so it is waiting for us when we get back from our honeymoon. I hope both our moms are right because right now we are getting nothing!!! I think Im just upset because I registered for some really cute overnight bag and tote bag for our honeymoon and we most likely wont get it before!
We got a ton of cash, and barely anything moved off our registry until the weekend before the wedding.
Me too!!!!!!!!!
1 gift was bought last I checked and my shower is next weekend and our wedding the week after!
I guess my girls could be throwing me a lingerie shower or something but still 1 GIFT!!!!! I think its funny!
VM- I am getting you something even better than the registry items- a subway gift certificate! Maybe some of your other guests are getting you this as well, particularly the guests who bought tickets.
I think a LOT of people shop late! And my husband and I got a lot of giftcards and monetary gifts.
:) wish I could be your registry fairy and add some more gifts!
I am going to a wedding next weekend (FI is a GM) ... and we haven't even looked at the registry yet, but plan to buy something ... so I don't think you need to worry, I'm sure people will start buying items over the next week or so.
We barely got anything off the wedding registry as wedding gifts - I got them at my bridal shower or not at all for the most part. For the wedding we got cash more than anything else!
Check the registry a couple of day sbefore the wedding. I know that's when I usually shop for a gift if I actually plan to bring it to the wedding with me. Otherwise I get it a week in advance and have it shipped directly to the couple's home.
Yeah; most people do not shop that far in advanced. I'm the week of type of girl myself.
I usually buy the gift about 24-48 hrs before hand... usually with the intent of finding something that they might need that hasn't been bought yet..
Seriously, many people buy gifts the DAY of the wedding. It'll be okay :)
I'm terrible about buying gifts in a timely manner. I used to be so prepared, and now I'm that girl who buys it on the way to the shower/wedding and wraps it in my car.
Only a few people bought off of our registry. I was watching ours like a hawk and up until the wedding hardly anything had been purchased. I don't know if it is a generational thing, but a good majority of our invite list was people our parent's age and practicially none of them purchased off of the registry. The only ones that did were the people around our age.
Don't get too upset yet!! A lot of people don't get a gift unitl that week of the wedding or day of. (A guest who got us an Amex gift card accidentally included the receipt...he purchased the gift card 30 mins before our wedding at the Walgreens from down the street :o) Also, many people will probably give you cash/check at your wedding. In that case, I'd be sure to have your DOC or family member keep a close eye on the card box for you that night!
I hardly got anything from my registry. I was so bummed out and the weird thing was that people went to stores to get stuff that was on my registry but bought cheaper brands and I got a lot of doubles. It's annoying but i think some people find registrys tacky.
People wait until the very last minute! Hopefully this weekend people are going to run out and started getting you guys stuff. Either that or you guys have money coming your way and to me that's even better!
Just for the record, I'm the dork who tries to shop registries ASAP so I have the best selection! I try to select a registry gift that I think makes sense coming from me (i.e. pizza slicer, cheese accessories, wine/bar accessories - basically food or alcohol toys!).
