I had a Skyla (very similar to Mirena, made by the exact same company) and my first cycle with it out took 31 days to come – I had 25-28 day cycles WITH my IUD in. Did you get it removed while you were on your period?

MsYankee:  Gotcha. Well then, I definitely wouldn’t worry about it! Honestly! Maybe if you don’t get it within a few months, call your doctor back and ask what’s up. But 22 days is nothing to worry about. 🙂

MsYankee:  It’s totally possible (and probably not even as unlikely as you would think) to get pregnant if you have sex in the day or two before your Mirena comes out, and also happen to ovulate in that same time frame. In that case I believe there’s also a higher likelihood of early miscarriage, because Mirena works by thinning the uterine lining to prevent implantation, so getting pregnant right around the time of removal means the lining may not yet have regenerated. But, it’s also super common to experience the “Mirena Crash,” the symptoms of which very closely mimic early pregnancy symptoms. I definitely had a bad case of it.

I had my Mirena removed in July, then went on the pill for a month to time my period so I wouldn’t have it at my wedding or on my honeymoon. I started the first pill in the pack the day of the removal, and then got my period the day after I took the last active pill – so exactly 22 days later, but with medical intervention. FWIW, I wound up getting pregnant on the honeymoon, much to our surprise…we figured it’d take a few months for my cycle to go back to normal after doubling up on birth control like that, but apparently not!

MsYankee:  I think I had a bit of spotting when I got it out, but didn’t get a period until 30 days after. I was super emotional and crampy too. When I did get my period back, it was extremely short (2 days) with very very light bleeding for 3 months, then I had a normal period with regular flow, and got pregnant the cycle after that. I didn’t have a period at all when I was on mirena. Some people get pregnant right after its removal (one of my best friends did) but lots of people take a few cycles to bounce back and build up the lining again! I think it’s extremely unlikely that you are pregnant or having an early miscarriage, and I think that it’s much more likely that your lining is building up again.

I haven’t had but my bff did run into the same

thing. It took her about a month and a half to get it if that helps.

I had nausea during my Mirena crash…I actually did throw up once. And the exhaustion was intense. I was really terrified I was pregnant (it was a month before my wedding and I really wanted to be able to drink, damn it!) but I took a test and it as negative. However…my crash ended after about two weeks. If you are still experiencing it after almost a mont, something else could be up.
