Can you have a transporation to take you off premises for photos? Is there a park nearby?
Have you thought about doing a first look, and having pictures before the ceremony at a different location? If you do them at a park or in a public place, you won't have to pay. Out here a lot of people go down to the Loop (our downtown) to take pictures even when they're getting married on the west/north/south side just because it's pretty and makes for fun shots.
I was going to suggest a park or maybe a nearby downtown area with cool architecture? Also, that sounds like ALOT for just 59/ person... I'd try to get recommendations from people who have had events there before to see how good the quality is.
I would say try to find a park/lake/pond/some kind of natural scenic area nearby. Our hotel doesn't have a great spot for pictures either, but it sits right on a river and across the river is a beautiful park, so we will be doing pictures out there.
As long as you have transportation to another site, you can have pictures taken there. I would sugest only taking you and your groom to the other location so you don't have a lot of transportation to do. We drove about 10 minutes away to a local park for our bridal pictures after the first look.
Any local architecture? Like, Indianapolis has a great monument downtown that I would use if I was in your situation. I'd say definitely to go somewhere before for a first look. You might want to take your photog to the hotel and go through it with her... she might see it differently.
@stephinPA: I'm not really sure just yet about the park thing.. it's right off a major highway. So if there is a park nearby it may not be quite what I am looking for yaknow? I didnt plan on limos for the wedding because we were doing an on-site thing. I was going to have just a car service take us from the hotel to the airport the next morning (if) we go on our honeymoon the following day. We'd probably just stay in that same hotel on the night of.
Do you have a photographer? If so, ask him/her. S/he'd be the most likely to know great places for photographs in the area!
Take pictures at a park beforehand, if you're not dead-set against a first look. I think it's the best way to get good photos if your venue doesn't really have a good spot for them.
You don't "need" a limo. Get the wedding party into cars and go somewhere near but pretty. You'd be surprised what your photog can do with just a tiny bit. I've used a 4ft. wide wall before.... Ask your photog... I'm sure there is something somehwere. If you saw half the places I shoot you would NEVER EVER think of shooting there :-)
I would look at some areas around the hotel and then talk to your photographers to see what they think. Just make sure you dont travel too far for pictures or you wont have enough time if you arent doing a first look. Id say anywhere that is 5-10 minutes away would work.
I'm actually a huge fan of just taking the pictures where you are. To me, the point of getting pictures is to remember the day. So why drive somewhere just for the point of getting pictures, when it isn't related to the wedding? There are some photography techniques that focus on the people and make the background really blurry so that you can't even tell what the background is. When you are looking for a photographer, be sure to as about this technique and look for it in sample pictures. You could also bring in a backdrop for some formal pictures.
Thank you ladies.. i had just been reading up on a post about the first look .. i'm a bit nervous about asking my FI abt it..he's pretty firm on waiting til i'm walking down the aisle toward him for our "first look" but i'll have to bring it up with him again and see what he says.. in the mean time, i'm asking around to some ppl who live in the county where this would take place (should we choose this venue) and see if they know of any local parks!
Thanks!!
Hey ladies.. good news! So today the Fi and I went up route 9 in Fishkill where the hotel is that we're thinking of booking as our wedding venue.. and about 20 minutes north of the hotel is this great little "park" area.. oh its beautiful! So i'm satisfied that i will get some great photos outside with a beautiful backdrop! Now if I could just rig-up the weather to be perfect.. i'd be set! Thank you so much for all of your suggestions.. i'm finally feeling good about getting the show on the road! xoxox

Hi ladies!
I may have already posted about this before but i'm not 100% sure.
Yesterday I went to see a Holiday Inn for my reception. I wasn't overly pleased with the service, however, the price is pretty darn good.
Here is a quick breakdown:
$59/per person + 20% gratuity and 8.125% tax (reception) + $500/ceremony on site.
This includes:
-Variety of elegant linen to choose from with chair covers (bows are extra)
-Customized centerpieces for each table
-Complimentary hospitality room with hors d'oeuvres and champagne
-Premium Liquor Served Unlimited for Entire Event
-Buffet & butler passed hors d'oeuvres
-Champagne toast
-Delicious variety of foodt o create the perfect sit down dinner or buffet
-Custom designed wedding cake by the Pastry Garden
-Complimentary Bridal Suite
-White floor runner and flower petals for ceremony as the aisle
-Subtle flowers and trees with twinkling lights
-Either a raised or flat alter with optional table for unity candle or anything your ceremony might require
-Decorated Archway or lattic for alter
-Undivided attention from our banquet manager\
Sooo thats a lot of stuff for the price. But I drove 25 min each way to get there and walked around briefly and talked to the woman totally 30 mins and I was not very enthused.. i mean.. its not a reg. wedding venue (like, it's a hotel, they do LOTS of diff. events) so maybe the ppl aren't really into "selling" the whole wedding thing? I dunno.
ANYWAY, there is no place at this location for pictures unless I want a very busy highway as my backdrop. Where can i take pictures? Can I take them anywhere? Run in front of a church or in front of a lake and just snap some? If i'm doing a cermony on site, this seems complicated and time consuming.
Also... will I have to pay someplace for pictures? If i did it elsewhere?
What are your thoughts ladies?
I NEED HELP!
thank youuuu xoxo
