I would like to do table numbers so I can group people to sit at certain table in whatever seat they choose but I dont want to go formal enough to do placecards. Is this unheard of? If it works how would I let them know what table they are sitting at?

You can do escort cards, which are different than placecards. You can put all of your escort cards on one table near the entrance, and on each card, it can say where each person/couple/party is sitting, for example:
“Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, Table 2”
Most of the weddings I’ve been too have done only escort cards, which tell you the table you’re at, instead of placecards, which tell you your exact seat. We did escort cards and it worked great!
Does that make sense?

You could create table numbers for each table and then create a board showing names and what table they will be sitting at. The main reason for me to do placecards is because we are having a plated dinner and the servers need to know who is eating what. We are arranging the placecards on ribbon boards which will show them the table number but allow them to sit where ever they want at that table.

Thank you both! Yes the escort cards make sense, now that you brought them up I think i have heard of them before. Its a great idea and I think it will work well for our reception of 50 or so ppl. thanks again!
